You cannot use more than 63,206 characters in your Facebook status update

That's right the number in the post title is quiet right. Each Facebook post update cannot be more than 63,206 characters. Not a character more is allowed. So go ahead and post away because compared to Twitter is is heaven - especially for those who like to share stories in the Facebook updates. Vadim Lavrusik - program manager at Facebook announced via a blog post that Facebook allows post with more than 60,000 characters. Our friends over at Mashable wanted more clarification and asked for the exact number - 63,200 was the number they got. There you have it folks, the last update from Facebook was that the character limit had been increased to 5,000. The next update that we have before us is 63,206. Now that is a huge increase and maybe users on Facebook have a lot more to say. We have already seen some fatigue with people who keep updating constantly imagine what would happen now if those updates can be as long as a short story. This is for website and blog owners who might have been affected by Google's algorithm update know as 'Panda'. When Panda was released Google had said that 35% of search results would be affected. Which means that website and blog owners who were enjoying a lot of traffic coming from Google could now be affected in terms of less traffic coming from the search engine. How to change your Twitter Username (Handle)

How to get your old Yahoo Mail back

2. Set your screen resolution to 800x600
3. This will cause the new Yahoo mail to not display correctly
4. You will receive a message 'Return to previous version' Click on it
5. You're done


You can now reset your screen resolution to it's previous settings and carry on with things as normal. All will work find.

Facebook friending rules

Facebook has its own community guidelines when it comes to adding friends. If you have been adding a number of people and those people have been using the 'Not now' feature there is every possibility that Facebook will put a block on your account. This means there is a limit to the number of requests you can send on Facebook. If however all the request you send get accepted there will be no problem and Facebook will not restrict you account. The problem arises when you send a large number of requests to people who you do not know. This can be a problem because Facebook does have community guidelines and sending a large number of friend request to people you don't know can invite a Facebook restriction on your account.


What to do if you account is restricted on Facebook for sending too many friend invites.
There is really nothing much you can do and all you need to do is wait it out. Facebook does that as they explain to avoid 'User harassment'. Which can be a big problem. So always keep in mind that if you send a large number of friend requests to people you don't know can get your friending activity restricted for a period of time. When that happens you will need to wait for some time before the ability to add friends is restored to your account. 

How to search Google, Verbatim

Google have announced a new search feature to their popular search engine. The Ability to search verbatim. What this means is that you can use this option to search for the exact keywords you enter. Google will not auto-correct your search terms but the engine will return results exactly matching your keywords. This comes after Google have done away with the '+' operator saying that less that half of all internet searches used it and that when used, was usually used incorrectly. Google encourages people to use double quotes instead.


Google have said that since removing the + search operator a lot of requests have come in form users, to allow verbatim search. results should be show that exactly match what you enter. This makes a lot of sense because Google is vast and if you don't want the search engine to interfere with your search terms but just show results according to your actual search terms. 


When you use verbatim search the following takes place
making automatic spelling corrections
personalizing your search by using information such as sites you’ve visited before
including synonyms of your search terms (matching “car” when you search [automotive])
finding results that match similar terms to those in your query (finding results related to “floral delivery” when you search [flower shops])
searching for words with the same stem like “running” when you’ve typed [run]
making some of your terms optional, like “circa” in [the scarecrow circa 1963]

The song is song by Tamil Film actor Dhanush for the upcoming flick  "3", directed by his wife Aishwarya Dhanush, megastar Rajnikanth's daughter. Rajnikanth being the highest paid actor in India. The song captures a mood and has a laid back attitude. With the actor asking 'Why This Kolaveri Di' which when translated means 'Why this murderous rage babe'. The Tamil-English song has a laid back attitude and captures the mood of today's youth, in a way that is very special. A Steve Jobs Movie could be out pretty soon

It has already been reported that Sony has acquired the rights to Walter Issacson's authorized biography of Steve Jobs and have now decided to do a film on his life. They also have a choice of who they would like to write the movie. Aaron Sorkin is their top choice - he won an Oscar earlier this year for his Facebook flick - The Social Network. He has confirmed that Sony have approached him to wirte the movie and 'It is something I am considering' he has said.


Sorkin also says that the only reseach he is doing at the moment is reading Issacson's book and that as of now, Steve Jobs is more of an inspiration to his 11 year old daughter than him. She plays with all the Tech Gadgets from Apple. As this stage nothing much is known about the movie and who could be the casts. Scam Alert: New Facebook Hack Tells You Your Account Is Going to Be Deleted

There is a new Facebook scam being reported. What happens is that users get an email in their Inbox telling them that their 'Facebook Account is Disabled'. The reason being given is that you have violated the network's policies. This has tricked many users into clicking the link associated with this mail and then been taken to a phishing page which then asks you for important information. The page also asks uses to enter the first 6 digits of their credit card number. 


The scam is also very cleverly disguised and tells users that their account needs to be verified to make sure no one is using their account without their permission. This scam also has another spin-off which is basically using Facebook's very security feature that tell users that their account is being accessed from a different geographical location. To verify and keep your account you will need to enter personal info. Do not give any personal information over mail and Facebook and other services will not ask you for credit card information in an email. So if you get an email telling you that your account has been compromised and is going to be deleted. Simple delete that email as it it is a total scam.

Video: Google+ Commercial - Sharing but like real life

Google+ choose thanksgiving to launch their TV Ad and get more people to notice the service. The commercial if you have not seen it as yet is available at the bottom of this post. The ad sends out a clear message that Google+ is for people who like to and belong to a company and with it's circles you can share like in real life. The point of the whole thing is to show how Google+ is different from Facebook in the way you can share with your real-world connections. 


The Ad sounds and looks a little brainy and lacks excitement in its structure. So if you watch it you need to look at this kind-of-long Ad that speaks about Google+ and hangouts. Video: Samsung "Next Big Thing" Galaxy S II Commercial

Samsung Galaxy S II

Samsung has a Galaxy S2 commercial out and with it they have gone straight after the competition - Apple. The Korean mobile phone maker has started an ad campaign by taking on the iPhone. If you watch the commercial you will notice that they try to keep the conversation real-world and stick to what debates are actually happening  with SmartPhone lovers. One line in the ad goes 'I can never get a Samsung'. Good job with the ad and for sure it has spurred on the SmartPhone debate. Taking on the Apple Fanboy culture with the commercial seems like quiet a long shot, for starters the Apple Queue was not long enough and apparently the look and brightness of the phone has been tweaked. The ad points out 4G and a better battery life. Highlighting the current battery problem with the iPhone 4S. There is however no mention of Siri. Take a look at the Ad and do leave a comment. 

Facebook Phone Buffy

This is not a confirmed report but news sites are buzzing with the news that the rumor is out again. The rumor that Facebook will be building an all new smartphone. This will be a Facebook Phone and will be called Buffy, from Buffy the vampire slayer. There are reports on the internet that a Mobile Phone manufacturer has also been chosen to produce the phone and that would be HTC, who incidently beat out rival Samsung to win the contract. There has been no official announcement from Facebook regarding the phone but the rumor mills are churning. 


Now a deeply social phone from Facebook does make some amount of sense but whether it is really going to take users away from their current phones and use the Facebook phone is left to be seen. Facebook does have over 350 million active mobile phone users. 


A Facebook spokesperson had this to say to AllThingsD.
“Our mobile strategy is simple: We think every mobile device is better if it is deeply social. We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers to bring powerful social experiences to more people around the world.”


So it sounds like Facebook does want to get into the phone business given that it is a social platform that all other hardware and software manufactures have deep ties with. An official phone from the company could ensure that service providers across various countries would have tie-ups with Facebook and maybe offer a lot of free and add-on services to offer. 


The Apple iPhone has Twitter as its main social touch-point and Google has Google+ that has been integrated into Android based phones. Facebook looks like it is keep to get into the game. In Fact the Facebook Phone - Buffy will run on a modified version of Android OS. The release date for Facebook Phone Buffy is set to be as long as 12 - 18 months away.

You will always notice below the number of people 'who like his' the number of people who are talking about this. If you actually own a page then you will be wondering what does ' talking about this mean'. After reading about it and doing some research on pages that we have admin rights over this is what we have found.


It is actually a combination of factors. Starting from the most recent 'Likes' you page has received. Then the 'Like' gets posted to the person's profile and wall. There might be other friends who comment on it. There are people who would have tagged your page in a status update on Facebook. It also takes into account the number of comments your page is receiving. There might be @mentions also by people talking about it. So sometimes you might notice that you have fewer fans who have liked your page recently but the number below people talking about this might be more. That is because you page is being discussed about through means already mentioned in the above points.

A bill put forth before congress wants to classify Pizza as a vegetable because of the tomato paste or sauce that is topped on a pizza. Which means if the bill is passed a child's lunch can be substituted with a slice of pizza. Law makers in congress are recommending that Pizza and French fries be considered as whole foods. For this  large food companies -- in this case ConAgra and Schwan -- can be thanked -- they pressured Congress to comply with their financial interests.

Facebook Ticker to carry sponsored stories starting monday

First reported by Clickz, Facebook have announced that via an email that they will continue rolling out sponsored stories in users ticker starting Monday. Sponsored stories bring with them higher user engorgement and actually work better that traditional ads. With the launch of the ticker in Facebook, ads have taken a back seat and are loosing in relevance. Stories however bring more relevance and more user engagement. As people like to consume news and if Facebook users like a piece of news it gets shared all over the site and advertisers stand to benefit.


ClickZ also reports 'The Palo Alto, CA-based digital giant launched Sponsored Stories during January, and the ad units have become an important focus of Facebook's pitch to agencies'. This means that users might see ads in their news feeds.
