Digital Nomad - The new world traveller

Digital Nomads are the new world traveler. To summarize who is a Digital Nomad - someone who has learned to make their living off the internet to support themselves and their world travels. Much of this movement has been attributed to Tim Ferris and his book The 4 hour work week. With the internet presenting numerous opportunities to make money. There are many people who have hit upon ides to generate income and with that income take-off to see the world. The new wanderlust is self-supported and helps people who would like to have that kind of a lifestyle. There are many people who have been travelling around the world and paying for it through their entrepreneurship ideas on the internet. So the next time you see someone sitting in a coffee ship in Thailand and working away, it could be one of the Digital Nomads whoa re roaming the world. All they need is an internet connection and a business or idea that is generating money for them.

Digital NomadsSome of the jobs these Digital Nomad do while on travel it - blogging, Vlogging, webpage design, ebook writers, English teachers, professors, WordPress template designers and what not. This kind of a thing might not appeal to most people as there is a lot of loneliness involved. Staying away from friends and family is not for everyone. But for some this is a lifestyle choice and they seem to be happy. The added advantages are that you don't have a boss, work wherever you want and whenever you want.  There are many Digital Nomad communities on the internet to help all of them connect while travelling the globe.

The whole thing started after the financial crisis of 2008 with many people out of work. Some innovative people left their jobs and everything to pursue their dreams and out of that a whole new movement was born. There is a lot to learn and if you are someone who wants to pursue this kind of a life, there are many resources out there. The idea for this post came from Dave and Erin who did an AMA on Reddit here is a link to their site to help you know more. Please leave a comment below to continue this discussion. Harlem Shake Meme

The Harlem Shake is a video based internet meme that went viral on YouTube. The meme started in February of 2013 - it is so new. The meme started when five teenagers from Australia uploaded their Harlem Shale video in response to a video by YouTube vLogger Filthy frank to YouTube. YouTuber TheSunnyCoastSkate as their YouTube name goes uploaded the first video on Feb 2 which has in less than a month more than 40,000 spinoffs. Their original video meme has been so popular that it is sure to end the long reigning Gangnam Style as the most popular meme on the internet. Surprisingly 'Planking' the greatest meme of 2011 also has its origins in Australia.

Harlem Shake Internet MemeThe original music for 'Harlem Shake' is by Baauer. 30 seconds of which is used for the meme. That's right this meme is short, funny and exhilarating. The lyric - do the Harlem shake is taken from the 2001 track 'Miller Time'. The dance involves shaking the shoulders and the torso as seen in the videos below. This is more of a meme as it is not based on someones video but a whole style created by the original uploaders of the video memes. Filthy Frank was the first person to upload the Harlem Shake video but it's the boys from Australia who actually took over the meme and made it really popular. There are now 4,000 Harlem Shake videos being uploaded to YouTube everyday. Check out the videos below for more

Snapchat: how does it work

Snapchat is all in the news these days and with good reason. The App which has made a big splash on iPhones, iPads and on Android phones and tablets. Lets users take a picture of themselves and send it to their pals. These picture self-destruct in 10 seconds which has been a big hit among sexting teens. Sexting is the term used when people take naked, semi-naked and embarrassing photos of themselves and send it to other people. The Android App and the iPhone app which can be downloaded for free and used, has become so popular that the Snapchat team have announced that 50 million photos are being shared everyday.

Once the App is downloaded on a phone or tablet all one needs to do is to tap the button to take photo or hold the button down to take a video. Select the list of friends to send to. The photo or video gets sent and the self destructs in 10 seconds. Following the success of Snapchat, Facebook launched their own applications called the 'Facebook Poke App'. Which works along the same lines -- why Facebook is always after apps related to human relationships is something to ponder about.

Snapchat for SextingSnapchat Q&A

1. How to take a Snapchat screenshot.
There are many ways to do this -- Google your query and be hit with answers. Anyone can take a Screenshot and if the sender has his or her screenshot taken they are notified. May not be much of a consolation but the sender is notified. Screenshot is an image capture of your photo, which can be stored and used later. pretty simple and easy to do. So thinking that the photo will disappear in 10 seconds and be gone forever is not true, photos can be saved.

2. How to save a Snapchat video.
The answer is given by BuzzFeed's Katie -- here you will find a complete guide on how to store a Snapchat video. If you're not comfortable with people finding and viewing your videos, don't share.

3. Will people be able to share photos and videos
yes, once it's saved these images and videos can be shared. So, don't share anything that you will feel bad about later. Hope you get the picture.

Eastwooding Meme

Eastwodding is a Clint Eastwood inspired Meme that is fast gaining a lot of traction on the internet also know as Invisible Obama and Empty Chair . The meme has to do with users pointing to an empty chair and taking a photo. Which is then shared on Twitter and other social media sites like Reddit and Tumblr. There are also a couple of variations. Some users point to an empty chair while some other use the image of Clint speaking to an empty chair and adding their own images to the empty chair. This is an image macros and can be done with Photoshop.

How did the Eastwooding Meme begin.
It all began on the national stage of the GOP National Convention Thursday night, When Clint Eastwood spoke to an empty chair addressing it as 'President Obama'. The internet then responded to it, in the only way it know how - create a meme.

Here is the video of the empty chair speech

After the speech Eastwooding started trending on Twitter under the hashtag #Eastwooding - with users sharing photos of them pointing to  empty chairs. Soon after the speech there was a Twitter account called @InvisibleObama which has already gained over 57,000 followers. There is also a Tumblr for Eastwooding and a Reddit subreddit called /r/eastwooding. BuzzFeed also picked up the trend and posted pics of it. There is also a Facebook page called Eastwooding. You can also follow all the images being shared for Eastwooding on Google+ by typing in eastwooding. There is a fantastic collection of pics on Google+.

How did President Obama respond to Eastwooding.
The president's camp saw the humor and responded by Tweeting a pic called 'This seat's taken', a picture of Obama sitting in his chair taken from behind with the caption on the chair reading - 'The President'.

College Students and Young Professionals consider the Internet to be as important as air, water, food and shelter

This according to a study conducted by Cisco. Teens and young adults will not be able to speak a sentence without reaching for their device to check online. The addiction is so much that teens and young adults are requested to go out get some fresh air and consider interacting with nature it will do you good. Some who were surveyed went on to say that the internet was so important to them that it ranked higher that dating, partying and cars. The internet has become so integral to their lives it is needed like air, water and food. They seem to think a day without the internet would rob them of life.

This means that SmartPhones and other mobile devices have become much more integral to their lives and they cannot think of life without one. In fact some of them surveyed also said it was more important that traveling. Yes, the internet can be used to get around and so how needs to travel.

This generation has changed so much with the tablets and mobile phones that books and life outdoors seem to be neglected. Teens these days seem to think that if they are not connected online life will come to a standstill.
