FarmVille Official Podcast Transcription - August 13th, 2010

Hey Farmers and welcome to this week's installment of the Official FarmVille Podcast. My name is Lexilicious and I am here to bring you all of the latest news and information from around the Farm. This week, we will be discussing our latest releases, I will be answering some questions from members of the FarmVille Community and you guys will all be getting a sneak peek of what is coming to FarmVille in the near future.

So this week our 7 days of summer sale made an appearance, featuring some of the most requested classic themes from the past. Each day this week, a past favorite Limited Edition theme was in the market for 24 hours. This gave many of our players the opportunity to obtain items they may have previously missed out on or not had the chance to purchase. So far, the California, Yukon, French chateau, Southwest, Tuscan and Island themes have made an appearance, with the Japanese Garden and UFO theme still to come this weekend. If you are a fan of the Japanese Garden Theme or the classic UFO theme, make sure to be ready for this weekend's sales so you don't miss your on your chance to purchase favorites from this collection while they last.

On Wednesday, we had a very special surprise for all of our players. Upon logging in, all players received 1 free Dart for the Mystery Game! This dart can be used immediately, or saved for a future Mystery Game you may be looking forward to. If you have not yet had a chance to claim your free dart, simply open the Market and play the Mystery Game and you will be able to automatically throw one free dart.

We also released two new permanent crops and the new "Bakery Delivery" Co-op missing this week. For anyone who may be interested, the Zuchini crop is a 16 hour crop, grants two experience points, costs 120 Coins to plant and Yields 220 Coins when harvested. This crop is one of our new Heirloom crops, which means you must have previously mastered Pattypan Squash to unlock it in the market. Our Rhubarb crop is also a 16 hour crop, grants 1 experience point, costs 65 coins to plant and yields 150 coins when harvested. For our sign collectors out there, both of these crops can be mastered. For information on the mastery requirements, please visit the "game updates" section of the Official FarmVille Forums.
Q&A:

Now, the FarmVille Team receives thousands of questions from players a week and the best ones from our community get answered here. Our first question today comes from harrydresden, and they have a question that has been a big topic of discussion for our players. "I would like to know when you are going to get rid of some of the pop ups in the game. It's taking too long to plow and plant and harvest my crops."

Well, the FarmVille team took into consideration all of the feedback from our community about the number of pop-ups that are currently present in the game. Yesterday, we released the "Daily Good Deeds" feature that is a new and improved way for you to interact with your neighbors. One of the best parts of this feature is that it should really cut back on some of the pop-ups players have been receiving for the past few weeks prompting them to help their friends with various tasks. These requests have been streamlined with this release, and you can now assist your friends by Clicking the Checklist Icon on the left of your screen, which will allow you to help your Neighbors finish buildings, complete collections and more. For players who are feeling Neighborly, make sure to come back daily for new ways to help your friends on their farms.

Our next question comes to us from kaytkayt. "We have too many 16 hour crops now. Can we expect new crops in the future that aren't 16 hours long?"

We have heard feedback from our community since the release of Zuchini and Rhubarb that 16 hour crops are inconvenient for some players. Because of that, I'm happy to let you know that in the future, we will be releasing some 14 hour, 24 hour and 6 hour crops to better accommodate our players.

Our last question comes to us from RainyDayz. "If Mystery Boxes are gone, how will I be able to get my They of Mystery Ribbon?"

Our ribbon collectors out there will be happy to know that late this week we actually released an update that has fixed this issue. Darts thrown in the Mystery Game will now count towards the "They of Mystery" ribbon, which will now allow all of our players to complete this ribbon if they wish to do so.

If you have a question you would like answered by the FarmVille team on our weekly podcast, please make sure to visit the Official FarmVille Forums for more information on how to participate.
News on upcoming features:

Alright! So in this week's coming soon segment we will actually be discussing a feature that I announced a few months ago. As most of our listeners are aware, late in May I announced a new feature called Underground storage. Since then, many of you have been wondering where this elusive release has been. Well, the FarmVille Team decided to go back to the drawing board with this one and we will actually be releasing a revised version of this release with some significant changes. In the near future, the storage cellar will make an appearance in FarmVille bringing with it some well deserved leg room for our players. The storage cellar will take up a very small amount of room and will allow you to store a total of 500 items on your farm. To increase storage in your cellar, you will need to get your friends to send you gifts to unlock more room. This version of the feature should prove to be much easier for our players as there is no crop growing or digging required to take advantage of the extra space. Alternatively, if you don't feel like waiting for your friends to send you gifts, you can simply pay Farm Cash to get your storage immediately.

In addition to storage cellars, we will also be releasing more summer and beach themed items in the coming weeks along with new playground items!

And on that note, it's time for me to get out of here Farmers. Again, my name is Lexi and I would like to thank all of our listeners for tuning in this week. We will be back next Friday with all of the latest news and information about FarmVille from Zynga. Happy Farming everybody!

FarmVille Loading Placeholders

How to load Placeholders in FarmVille

When you add a great number of animals and items on a farm together with a slow internet connection or older computer it can take a bit of time for everything to load. This can create confusion as it can appear that a favorite animal or item has been lost on your farm when it really just needs more time to load.

In order to prevent any such confusion, and to make it clear where items are going to load, loading placeholders have been added to FarmVille.

If you look at the image below, you can see a number of circles on the farm that indicate where various animals and items will soon load into the game. These placeholders should be on your farm as everything loads into game, and go away when the proper artwork for your item is ready to go!

Once everything is loaded your farm will look and function as normal. Seeing placeholders when you first load FarmVille does not indicate that anything is wrong, and it will not change the placement or function of anything in the game. It’s just a simple way for you to be sure that things are where you left them while the items load individually.

What are the flipping coins you see while plowing in FarmVille

The coins are a random chance for players to win 100 coins while plowing, planting or harvesting. It happens completely randomly with any kind of crop. If you see the coin above your head, check your coin balance. You should have an additional 100 coins in there.

You do not need to click on the coin or grab it, the addition of the coins will be added automatically. The flipping gold coin does not add to "cash" balance but to your "coin" balance. Often it is hard to catch the actual coin balance change because you are busy plowing or harvesting when it happens which is making your coin balance change already. Testing has confirmed that coins are added to balance with the flipping coin.

FarmVille Bushel Rates Have NOT Changed

Bushels Update: No changes have been made to the bushel drop rate.

To get bushels:

  • You *MUST* have a Market Stall placed on your farm (the crafting building does not count).

  • You must harvest crops.

  • Bushels are granted randomly during harvesting.

Crop Mastery DOES improve your odds of getting a bushel.
Seeds pollinated by honeybees DO improve your odds of getting a bushel.

Or you can shop your neighbors for them.

FarmVille Podcast - August 6th 2010

This FarmVille podcast is brought to you by Lexilicious community manager at Zynga FarmVille.

Below is the full transcript of the podcast, taken from Lexilicious' official forum post:

"FarmVille Podcast - August 6th:

Hey Farmers and welcome to this week's installment of the Official FarmVille Podcast. My name is Lexilicious and I am here to bring you all of the latest news and information from around the Farm. This week, we will be discussing our latest releases, I will be answering some questions from members of the FarmVille Community and you guys will all be getting a sneak peek of what is coming to FarmVille in the near future.

As I am sure some of you know, the new Garage feature was released today. We will be spending most of this week's podcast walking through this new feature which will provide some helpful tips for users who may still be trying to figure out the basics of our latest update.

Garages are used to store Tractors, Harvesters and Seeders. You can also use the Garage to upgrade your Vehicles so you can farm faster than ever before! If you are level 22 and above, you can purchase a Garage Frame from the Market for 50,000 Coins.

Building the Garage is very similar to building a Japanese Barn. To construct your Garage, you will need to collect 10 Boards, 10 Bricks and 10 Nails.
Once you have placed your Garage Frame, click on "look inside" from the Garage's menu. Doing so will open a page that displays what you need to complete your Garage. Like any other constructible building, you can collect materials via the free gifts page, the "ask for more" button and with Farm Cash.

From the Free Gifts Page, your Neighbors will be able to send you one of the three types of building components to help you finish your Garage. When neighbors send you a building component, it works exactly like any other free gift. After you accept the gift it will appear in your gift box. After clicking the "use" button under the gift it will automatically be added to your Frame.
When viewing the interior of your unfinished Garage Frame, each component that you have not yet received 10 of has an 'Ask For More' button. When clicked, this will allow you to send Gift Requests to your friends for your chosen component.

If at any time during your construction process you decide that you'd rather simply purchase the individual items required for the Garage, you can do so by clicking the "buy" button underneath a component in the Garage's menu. Alternatively, if you do not wish to buy the parts for the Garage individually, you can click the "Complete Now" button.

Once your Garage is complete, it can be used to hold up to 20 vehicles on your Farm. Completing your Garage also unlocks the ability to upgrade your Vehicles.

Upgrading your Vehicles will increase the amount of plots they affect. The higher level your Vehicle is, the more plots it will interact with when farming. Currently, the highest you can level your Vehicles to level 4.

Upgrading your vehicles requires Vehicle Parts. Vehicle parts can be obtained from friends via the "ask for more button" and with Farm Cash, like I explained earlier. Once you have parts, you can open your Garages menu to select which vehicle you would like to apply them to. All Vehicles that are stored in your Garage can still be used as normal. At this time, you may only have one Garage on your Farm and Biplanes cannot be stored in them, due to technical limitations.

This week was also an exciting week for LE releases. More New England items made their way to the Market, along the adorable new Mini Horse. The new Mini Mystery Game has also been a huge hit with the community, featuring mini versions of all of your favorite animals, including the new Mini Stallion. If you have not yet had a chance to play this week's Mystery Game, make sure to head to the market to get some of these great animals before they disappear in a few days.

And as with all of our big features, we want to hear your feedback about this week's updates! If you have any thoughts or opinions you would like to share with the FarmVille team regarding the new Garage feature or Limited Edition items, please make sure to visit the Official FarmVille Forums or www.farmville.com.

On that note, let's go ahead and get into answering some questions from members of the FarmVille Community!

Our first question comes from 18835. "Where is the wandering stallion? If it is no longer available will you be providing a stallion for purchase?"

Late last week, we actually had a bug that was affecting the frequency of how many times the Wandering Stallion would appear. Earlier this week, we put in a fix for this bug and you should now be seeing Wandering Stallions as per normal.

Our next question comes to us from Cheshire Kitten. "Since the release of the crafting buildings, it seems like I have been getting fewer bushels when I harvest. Have the drop rates for bushels been lowered?"

The drop rates for bushels have not been altered since the release of Crafting Cottages. I think since bushels are in such high demand right now it may seem like you are getting less, but nothing has been changed with this feature. And since bushels are not guaranteed, it is also possible that you have just hit an unlucky spell lately. Just as a reminder, if you master your crops, you will receive additional bushels from those crop types. You can also purchase a total of 300 Bushels from your neighbors every 24 hours, so if you find that you can't produce any of your own, try visiting your Neighbors Crafting Buildings for more.

And last but certainly not least, its time for you guys to get a sneak peek of things coming to FarmVille in the near future.

Starting early next week, FarmVille will be bringing back some of your favorite items for a very special sale. Each day next week, look in the Market for the return of some of your most requested Limited Edition themes. But you will have to be fast farmers... each theme will only be around for 24 hours. The Yukon and California Theme will be returning on Monday, the French Chateau Theme will be returning on Tuesday, the Adobe theme will be making an appearance on Wednesday, the Tuscany theme will be back on Thursday, the island theme will be back on Friday, Saturday will be the Japanese Garden them and Sunday will herald the return of the long lost UFO theme!

We will also be releasing a new Best of Mystery Animal Game in the near future, which will include rare animals like the hugely requested old White Owl!

And on that note, it's time for me to get out of here Farmers. Again, my name is Lexi and I would like to thank all of our listeners for tuning in this week. We will be back next Friday with all of the latest news and information about FarmVille from Zynga. Happy Farming everybody"

FarmVille Garage Explained

Here are some helpful tips for the basics of this latest update from FarmVille.

garages are used to store tractors, harvesters and seeders. You can also use the garage to upgrade your vehicles  helping you to farm faster than ever before. If you are at level 22 and above you can purchase a garage frame from the market for 50,000 coins. Building a garage is very similar to building a Japanese Barn. Doing so will open a page telling you what you need to complete your garage. Like any other constructible building you can collect materials either via the free gifts page the "ask for more" button" or with Farm Cash.

From the free gifts page your neighbors will be able to send you one of the three types of building components to help you finish your garage. If while in the building process you decide you would rather just purchase the items required for building the garage. You can do so by simply click the "buy" button, under the garages menu. You can also click the "complete now" button to buy all the parts at once.

Once the garage is complete it can hold up to 20 vehicles on your farm and unlocks the ability to upgrade your vehicles. Upgrading your vehicles will increase the amount of plots they effect. FarmVille Garage Guide to how it works

FarmVille has rolled out a new storage building this week. The Garage can be used to store and upgrade tractors, harvesters and seeders. Here is everything you need to know about Garages.

Garages

Garages are used to store Tractors, Harvesters and Seeders. You can also use the Garage to upgrade your Vehicles so you can farm faster than ever before! If you are level 22 and above, you can purchase a Garage Frame from the Market for 50,000 Coins.

Building the Garage is very similar to building a Japanese Barn. To construct your Garage, you will need to collect 10 Boards, 10 Bricks and 10 Nails.

Once you have placed your Garage Frame, click on “look inside” from the Garage’s menu. Doing so will open a page that displays what you need to complete your Garage. You can collect materials for your garage in three different ways:

1. From neighbors via the Free Gifts Menu

Neighbors can send you the components you need to build your Garage. Your Neighbors will be able to send you one of the three types of building components to help you finish your Garage.

Please note that the components displayed on the Free Gifts Page are randomized. As such, the components displayed on the Free Gifts Page may be different for each player. Each player should be able to send one component specific to the Garage.

When neighbors send you a building component, it works exactly like any other free gift. After you accept the gift it will appear in your gift box. After clicking the "use" button under the gift it will automatically be added to your Frame.

2. Ask For More

When viewing the interior of your unfinished Garage Frame, each component that you have not yet received 10 of has an ‘Ask For More’ button, that when clicked will take you to the Friend Selector page where you can select friends to send Gift Requests to for your chosen component.

3. Completing with Farm Cash.

If at any time during your construction process you decide that you’d rather simply purchase the individual items required for the Garage, you can do so by clicking the “buy” button underneath a component in the Garage’s menu. Alternatively, if you do not wish to buy the parts for the Garage individually, you can click the “Complete Now” button.

Once your Garage is complete, it can be used to hold up to 20 vehicles on your Farm. Completing your Garage also unlocks the ability to upgrade your Vehicles.

To upgrade a Vehicle, place it in your Garage and click “look inside”. You will see the following menu that will display all of your stored vehicles.

Upgrading your Vehicles will increase the amount of plots they affect (2x2, 3x3 etc). The higher level your Vehicle is, the more plots it will affect. Currently, the highest you can level your Vehicles to level 4.

Upgrading Vehicles requires Vehicle Parts. You can obtain Vehicle Parts two ways:

1. Ask For More

When viewing the Garage’s menu, you will see an ‘Ask For Parts’ button, that when clicked will take you to the Friend Selector page where you can select friends to send Gift Requests to for Vehicle Parts.

2. Completing with Farm Cash.

If at any time during your upgrade process you decide that you’d rather simply purchase the Vehicle Parts, you can do so by clicking the “Buy Parts” button that can be found in the Garage’s menu.

Once you have parts, you will see the following menu. From this menu you can select which Vehicle you would like to apply the Vehicle Part to.

Each Vehicle Level requires the following:

  • Level 1: 2 Parts

  • Level 2: 5 Parts

  • Level 3: 10 Parts (Must be level 26 or above)

  • Level 4: 15 Parts (Must be level26 or above)

Once you complete a level on your Vehicle, you will receive a pop-up that will allow you to post a feed to your wall. The first 10 Neighbors who click on this feed will receive 1 Vehicle Part.

All Vehicles that are stored in your Garage can still be used as normal. At the time, you may only have one Garage on your Farm and Biplanes cannot be stored in them.

FarmVille Addresses Missing Bees update

There have been many FarmVille farmers complaining about missing bees from their Beehives. Apparently many farmers who did not look after their bee hives started to find bees missing. Then there were the most diligent of farmers who also found that their bees have been missing. Well for now FarmVille has said there will be no bees leaving the hives. This feature has been cancelled. If you have had bees missing, well, the good news is that they will be flying back to your hive

FarmVille Honeybees Flying Away

If you look at the FarmVille notice above you will see that if you do not tend your Beehive for 8 days your honeybees will slowly start to fly away. If your bees have taken off, you will need to ask your friends for more. The grace period is 7 days and on the 8th day honeybees will start flying away. That leaves us to summarize that people who are busy will need to login at least every 6 to 7 days and tend to their beehives, after which the bees will begin to fly away.
