5 Inexpensive Ideas to Promote Your First Product

By Ilan Nass of Fueled -- is the leading iPhone app builder in New York City, renowned for its award winning mobile design and strategy.

When launching your first product to market without brand recognition, trust or loyalty it’s essential that you run a vigorous and active promotional internet campaign. When first starting off though it’s likely that cash is going to be very tight, so you’ll need to find innovative, fresh and low-cost ideas to ensure your product gains maximum exposure during its crucial early stages. Here are 5 ways you can do just that.

1.  Be seen as the go-to expert.
When consumers buy a product or service, one of the first things they’ll consider before committing to purchase is whether or not they can trust the seller. Getting yourself recognized as an authoritative figure in your niche is what will help endear people to your product. Getting said recognition won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible either.

The most manageable way to achieve this is to start a blog and by filling it with content which is relevant to your potential customer’s needs. By being seen as a “giver” by providing lots of free, quality, informative or entertaining content you’ll be adding value which will increase traffic flow and gain consumer trust.

2.  Video, video, video.

It’s 2013. If your company isn't using video to promote its products then your company is defunct.

It is estimated that 60% of all content consumed on the internet globally is now video. There is a huge demand for video content today and that demand will only continue to rise. Creating video doesn't have to be expensive either, so for a new company promoting its first product this is not an issue. Quality videos can be shot and uploaded onto YouTube using just an iPhone in a few minutes. You don’t need fancy editing skills, voice-overs or special graphics, just clear, engaging images which best present the benefits of your product.

     3.  Get addicted to Facebook.

Oh, how our grandfathers would have loved to have had a tool like Facebook to promote their first products! Facebook is an incredible platform for promoting business but just having a simple fan page isn’t nearly enough.

Facebook Ad’s are an extremely cost effective way of driving not only traffic to your product, but quality, targeted traffic. With Facebook Ads, even by spending as little as a few dollars a day, you can put your ads in front of people who have the exact interests relevant to your product, therefore guaranteeing traffic quality.

Another excellent tactic to exploit on Facebook is the use of ‘Reveal’ or ‘Gateway’ Tabs. Ask users for a “Like” on your page in exchange for a promotional offer or access to unique content. This will a) Get more likes for your page and b) Get people talking about your product. (This tactic could also be used on Twitter by giving something in exchange for a tweet or retweet etc.)

4.  Be an educator.

Problems, not solutions, are the largest motivator for people. We’re all driven in life by pain or, more specifically, the need to avoid it. Using Market Data can build a serious case for any product before you even try to sell it. So, if you’re a Health Food Store for example, instead of putting out endless information about your delicious new Wheatgrass and Goji Berry Salad, tell them instead of how it’s now estimated that 99% of the American people are deficient in essential nutrients and minerals which inevitably leads to disease. Which do you envisage people will be more interested in? Your “Wheatgrass Salad” blog, or the “We’re all going to die if we don’t improve our diets” one? Exactly.

Market Data is way more inspiring and motivating than any product data out there, and people will come to you much faster and stay longer if they can learn something of value to them, than they ever will to be sold to.

5.  Don’t fear cold emailing.

Just because email marketing is almost ubiquitous now, it doesn’t mean you should stay away from it. When promoting a first product, a structured direct email marketing campaign can prove very fruitful in a timely and cost effective manner. There are plenty of online tools to help you track results and manage your mail campaigns, such as MailChimp, but don’t forget it’s vital that your mail adds value in some way by either giving away a special offer or discount or by simply giving the recipient something they’ll want to read. Personalizing each mail goes a long way in increasing open rates and replies, also.

So these are 5 inexpensive ideas to promote your first product which you cannot afford to shy away from. We should all be grateful for the myriad of tools we have at our fingertips to aid us when it comes to selling products these days, but without using them properly, in the ways mentioned above, your business will be left in the dark.

Google Search Plus Your World: How does it work

Google has released a new product that it has begun rolling out to all users. If you do not have it already you certainly will over the next few days. To explain this new concept briefly it would be: Google has now integrated Google+ much more deeply in its search results. So when you now perform your regular search on Google. You will be shown results from Google+ and people you are connected to. So when you search for say images of elephants. You will be surprised to see pictures of elephants either which you or your friends have shared on the web. Especially shared on Google+ and Picasa. This means a lot of the recommended search results from Google will have a personal touch to it. This personal touch is not theirs but yours. People you are connected to on Google+ will become a part of your search results. So when you search, results will incorporate pages, post, images and videos shared by people you already know. This is 'Search Plus Your world.

In addition when you search for friends of yours, you will get their personal profiles popping up and not the wrong people. which means if you search for your pal 'Ben Smith', only his profile will show up and not all the other Ben Smiths in this world. In addition you will also get recommendations of highly ranked authors on Google+. If you want to be a person whose writing is recommended on Google+. You will need to join the Google+ Authorship Pilot Program.

Important Q&A
1. Can I toggle or switch between normal Google Search and Google Your World
yes you can do so by click on the human figure and world icon found on the top right-hand side of your screen. Clicking on the figure will give your 'Google Search Plus Your world Results'. Clicking on the world icon will give you results without personal recommendations.

2. Why is Twitter so upset with Search plus your world.
Because Twitter and Facebook have been omitted. Twitter says that the latest news breaks first on Twitter and not on other social networks. It is therefore unfair that results from Twitter are not show first.

3. What is Google's response?
Allow us access and we will show results from Twitter and Facebook. There is no deal now between these companies and therefore Google seems to be making good with what the have access to.

4. Can search plus your world surface public content from across the web?
Matt Cutts answers this by saying 'surface public content from sites across from the web, such as Quora, FriendFeed, LiveJournal, Twitter, and WordPress'.

5. How deep is Google+ integration with search plus your world.
It is very deep and this is incentive enough for people who are into SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Blog owners and website owners to make sure they get onto the Google+ bandwagon real quick.

If you have already tried it and when you do get a chance to experience it please let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Video: Church of Kopimism - recognized by the government of Sweden

The government of Sweden has recognized a new church - Church of kopimism. This church believes that all knowledge is sacred and the right to share it is sacred. The church has as its sacred symbols CTRL+C and CTRL+V. These are the commands for copying and pasting. For the Church of Kopimism, information is holy and copying is a sacrament. This comes at a time when the US government is pushing ahead with the SOPA bill ( Stop Online Piracy Act). This new bill which is being met with a lot of opposition is still forging ahead. If it becomes law then websites that help promote torrenting and file-sharing will be banned. ISP's will be asked to make them unavailable. 2012 needed to start with some sort of controversy and here we have it.
Check out the video below for more details:

You can visit the church's website but all you get is a static page. They have promised to be up once the storm settles.

This Website knows what you've been illegally downloading

If you have been a pirate online and been downloading illegally movies, games and music, this website knows all about you. All you BitTorrent users need to be aware that even though you think that downloading files from a file-sharing site might keep your activity anonymous. Think again, this site shows that all activity can be tracked and if you are using the same IP address for a long time, chances are that files you have been downloading have been tracked and can show up on sites like this.

If you want your IP address to be removed from the system you will need to login with your Facebook ID and then send in your removal request. Now you might be wondering if this is something to be worried about and is it going to cause you any problems. Well the site owners say not really. This is more for novelty purposes and to send a message. You need to keep a track of what your downloading and maybe even cover your cyber footprints.

This site can show your IP address and says that you have downloaded need For Speed. So don't worry the site is just a joke with a serious message. You can also use it to scare your friends. The reason for this is as everyone knows is that probably very few people can say that they have not tried to download something that was not legal. Maybe just something simple as an eBook.

What the site has:
Able to tracker 20% of all torrent downloads
What the site can do:
Tracking 100% of all BitTorrent downloads is doable and possible according to the site

This is all possible and can be done but youhavedownloaded.com is not here to spread your downloading activity across the web for all to see. Take care however as this is a grey area as large as it can get. That is the message from the site owners.

YouHaveDownloaded

Check the image below to see what the site owners have to say about the whole thing.

So please check the site out and use the comments section below to tell us if they have any scoop on you.

College Students and Young Professionals consider the Internet to be as important as air, water, food and shelter

This according to a study conducted by Cisco. Teens and young adults will not be able to speak a sentence without reaching for their device to check online. The addiction is so much that teens and young adults are requested to go out get some fresh air and consider interacting with nature it will do you good. Some who were surveyed went on to say that the internet was so important to them that it ranked higher that dating, partying and cars. The internet has become so integral to their lives it is needed like air, water and food. They seem to think a day without the internet would rob them of life.

This means that SmartPhones and other mobile devices have become much more integral to their lives and they cannot think of life without one. In fact some of them surveyed also said it was more important that traveling. Yes, the internet can be used to get around and so how needs to travel.

Video: Madonna hates Hydrangeas Internet Meme

All started with a video which we have posted below. A Fan goes up to her and gives her a bunch of Hydrangeas  She accepts it gracefully but while putting the flowers away she says "I absolutely loath Hydrangeas, he obviously doesn't know that'. Damage control is now on but who will repair the feeling of all the Hydrangeas in the world.

Her publicist has this to say "She's entitled to like any flower she wants and she didn't want to hurt the feelings of the hydrangeas of the world. No disrespect to the hydrangeas lovers of the world, but she prefers different types of flowers.

This has started a new Internet meme, with videos appearing on YouTube making fun of that statement. In the video below shot in old school style you see Madonna showing love on a bunch of Hydrangeas before suddenly stomping on them and saying. 'F*** you it's a free world and I like roses'.

BO.LT: How does it work

BO.LT A more interesting way to share that is the first sentence that greets you when you land on the page. This is a fantastic new idea on sharing and creating. With the site you can add any link you want to share with your usual audience on Twitter or Facebook, with one key difference. Before you share the page you can edit it and add your comments. Yes, you can share your favorite NYPOST article but this time your headline can be in place of the post's headline. You can also edit anywhere you want and delete or add. Once you done and you are satisfied with your handiwork you can share it with your pals and ask them to give you feedback.

How does it work

Now once you start and get the hang of it you can become a curator and create a collection of such pages and call them your own. Once you have a collection of pages you can start remixing them and create your own style and flow. So you can use content already available online and crate your own twists and turns. This is one cool site you can use to play around with content and personalize it. All links are shared via Sharethis and therefore all likes are shortened, no problem sharing on Twitter. You need to play around with this and see for yourself, it is really fun.
