Yahoo Axis: How does it work

Yahoo have released a web browser that proves that they still have juice when it comes to search. The app is now available for the iPhone, iPad and Desktops. The app is available for Chrome, Firefox and Safari. There was an initial problem with the Chrome extensions - Yahoo had accidentally released a private key which it has since removed. This means you would need to re-install the Chrome extension. The private key is used to confirm that a site was safe to browse and spammers could have used this key to build spammy web apps and give it the safe key. This way they would have been able to game Yahoo Axis. It is taken care of now and you are free to install the Chrome extension.

Yahoo Axis: How does it work
You would need to go to axis.yahoo.com and choose either desktop, iPad or iPhone to get it now. Once you click on the app you would like to install, you can then click yes and it happens in less that a minute. You do not need to restart your browser for it to work. The entire process if fairly simple and east to get going.

What happens when I add the extension to my browser
You see a small little black search box sitting on the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. When you hover over that it opens up to about half you screen size and you can then enter search terms to being searching. You get all results in a visual display that looks really nice. Once you type in a search term you get a whole visual from the website. Kind-off like what happens when you hover over a Google result. These website and image previews look much cleaner and bright. You can choose to search images or the web. Click on search web when Yahoo Axis opens up to switch between Web and Image results. You can also click the star to add to your read later or your favorites. To access your account you can either use Yahoo, Facebook or a Google Account. You can also clear your search history once you login. An Android version is being developed.

What type of results are show by Yahoo Axis.
Results show are from yahoo's custom built index. If they do not have an answer - you get a search result from Bing. So you do not get results that are not a part of Yahoo's custom built index. This is kind of a bore because till that gets done - all you get is a thumbnail from sites that are indexed and therefore does not work as a regular browser. Focus seems to be more on visual display and user experience. Therefore a lot of results normally found on the web are omitted.
Get Yahoo Axis for iPhone, iPad or Desktop now.
