Eastwooding Meme

Eastwodding is a Clint Eastwood inspired Meme that is fast gaining a lot of traction on the internet also know as Invisible Obama and Empty Chair . The meme has to do with users pointing to an empty chair and taking a photo. Which is then shared on Twitter and other social media sites like Reddit and Tumblr. There are also a couple of variations. Some users point to an empty chair while some other use the image of Clint speaking to an empty chair and adding their own images to the empty chair. This is an image macros and can be done with Photoshop.

How did the Eastwooding Meme begin.
It all began on the national stage of the GOP National Convention Thursday night, When Clint Eastwood spoke to an empty chair addressing it as 'President Obama'. The internet then responded to it, in the only way it know how - create a meme.

Here is the video of the empty chair speech

After the speech Eastwooding started trending on Twitter under the hashtag #Eastwooding - with users sharing photos of them pointing to  empty chairs. Soon after the speech there was a Twitter account called @InvisibleObama which has already gained over 57,000 followers. There is also a Tumblr for Eastwooding and a Reddit subreddit called /r/eastwooding. BuzzFeed also picked up the trend and posted pics of it. There is also a Facebook page called Eastwooding. You can also follow all the images being shared for Eastwooding on Google+ by typing in eastwooding. There is a fantastic collection of pics on Google+.

How did President Obama respond to Eastwooding.
The president's camp saw the humor and responded by Tweeting a pic called 'This seat's taken', a picture of Obama sitting in his chair taken from behind with the caption on the chair reading - 'The President'.

McKayla Not Impressed Meme

There is at least one Meme that has caught on that the Olympics has helped create. Know as 'McKayla not impressed'. Started out on a Tumblr called McKayla is not impressed. The meme over the last few days has been seeing a spurt of growth and Mckayla Maroney has given the meme her blessing with another photography of herself and two other Olympians doing a scowl when they discover the pool is closed. This pic was posted on McKayla's Twitter

The pool is closed.. #notimpressed instagr.am/p/OMsVFpKieZ/
— McKayla Maroney (@McKaylaMaroney) August 11, 2012

Origin of McKayla is not impressed:
McKayla Maroney is an American gymnast who on August 5th performed a nearly flawless vault at the London 2012 Olympics. Her second vault however turned into something of a tragedy when she failed to get enough height and consequently fell on her backside. So instad of the gold everyone though she would get after the first vault she ended up getting a silver medal. While standing on the winners podium photographer Bryan Snyder of the INA took a photograph of McKayla and her scowling expression.

Spread:
The photo-shopped image was then used to spread the meme. A tumblr emerged with 'McKayla is not impressed'. A BuzzFeed post titled 'McKayla Maroney Falls, Lets Out Her Inner ‘Mean Girl' comes out. Also a whole lot of submissions on Reddit under AdviceAnimals start coming out. The image has been used by people to create their own memes and it is still spreading across the internet like wild fire.

Here's a YouTube video of Mckayla Maroney's first and second jump. The first one is near perfect but the second jump she falls on her backside.

Here are a few sample images from the meme

What is a Meme?

First off let's start with the pronunciation - you can go with with meme which rhymes with 'theme' this seems to be the most accepted pronunciation for the word. An internet meme is something that initially starts as a fascination among a few individuals who then begin to propagate and spread the word. A good example would be planking which started in 2011. The meme became so popular that it spawned other memes like Owling, Tebowing etc. A popular meme that is currently growing strong in 2012 is 'Overly attached girlfriend'. This meme started when Laina Walker posted a video of herself as the 'Overly attached girlfriend' singing Justin Bieber's girlfriend. The video spread quickly around the web and became popular on sites like Reddit. With people taking image macros of the video and posting comments that bring out the creepiness of someone who is overly possessive.

How an Internet Meme begins
A meme is on the internet is a image or a video that is able to propagate on its own. Internet users like the idea and a meme can suddenly get a life of its own. it can keep mutating as it progresses but it stays alive nevertheless. A meme that starts in a particular culture usually stays within that culture or subculture. It is a way for many cultures to express their ideas which are especially relevant to their surroundings and especially friends. A meme is like a Gene and can replicate itself. a meme can also be seen as a cultural unit passed from from generation to the next by non-genetic means.

How do Internet Memes spread
A meme can be started by just misspelling a word or a phase like 'I Can Haz Cheeseburger. Or a picture, video, phrase, Hashtag. Memes usually spread on Social Networks like Facebook, Twitter and Reddit - they usually get a huge push by bloggers who write about these memes and in some ways add cultural context to them. With all the apps available on Smartphone - memes have found another way to spread.

How to generate and create a meme.
If you want to just add a caption to an already existing meme you can use services like meme Generator, quick meme or even Google+ to generate a meme. If you want to become a meme you will need to have a really quirky photo or video or phrase that other users will be interested in. Which they in turn will spread into the far reaches of the internet. Bad Luck Brian is a meme based on a photo of Kyle  - Kyle became an internet meme.

The song has Laina making those creepy eyes at the camera while singing the lyrics to the song. Come at me Bro Meme

'Come at me bro' is a catchphrase used to let an opponent know you are ready for a fight if needed. The person using 'Come at me bro' does not instigate a fight but is also willing to show that they are not willing to back down when someone is trying to bring a fight to them. This meme started in 2010 and is still going strong. We therefore decided to cover this particular meme that always seems to be hanging around the internet, especially on Reddit.

Origin of 'Come at me bro' and how it started also where it came from.
The origins of the meme can be traced back to MTV's reality series Jersey Show Episode 1 season 6. Ronnie is confronted by a person at Seaside Heights, NJ. he then tells his opponent 'Come at me bro' and ends up having a scuffle  wile his attacker's girlfreind tries to intervene.

What does Come at me bro mean?
The phrase can be used in different manners. A confident man telling his opponent he is not afraid of a fight 'Come at me bro'. Also used to show one will not start a fight but when the situation arises, one is not afraid to run away but stand and put on a show. Also used as a statement as a response to a challenging or  exclamatory response to a statement. Also a greeting used between people who are familiar with this meme.

How does it spread on the internet.
People generate meme pictures with this statement and help keep it alive. A lot of these images came be found on Reddit under advice animals and they are really funny. Here are a few below for your viewing pleasure and you can also contribute your own.

2012 dying for an Internet Meme

Search as much as we may in 2012 there is no meme even appearing on the horizon to rival the great meme of 2011 - Planking. Wonderful people and pranksters on the net have truly tried to come up with a meme this year but to no avail. One of the best memes that has got at least a little bit of news if the Angelina Jolie right leg meme also know as the 'Legbomb meme'. This has Angelina and Brad Pitt coming to the Oscars and posing on the red carpet. Her right leg is seen through the thigh-high slit in her dress. Pics of the leg spread quickly across the internet like earlier memes which shows her legs appearing in all the weird places memes usually appear. The statue of liberty, the Vancouver riot kiss and pepper-spray cop just to name a few. Makes for a fun meme but does not really bring out the fun of past memes. The year 2012 so far has been parched and dry as far as internet memes are concerned. Internet users who love memes need to get their brains in overdrive to come up with something that kicks start this year and brings out a meme that is truly memorable. Until then we will need to hang-on and wait for a real meme to capture the attention of the internet masses.

Google+: How to generate internet memes

An example provided by Google+

Google+ will be rolling out a new feature in their photo sharing tool. The ability to add a ordinary photo and then using their meme generator add some text. The font will be the same that most memes use and therefore will have the look and feel of any meme that has been generated over the internet. Once you create your photo meme you can then send it to all your pals and maybe you will be the next person responsible for generating that raging meme that sweeps across the internet.

Unlike the popular meme generator site that Reddit uses make use of. Google+ does not provide any photo templates, which means you will have to get your own photos and templates which are anyway available on the internet. The meme generator tool however will help you add text and it will look like any other popular meme found online.

How to create a meme using Google+
1. Sign-in to Google+
2. Access the photo you want to convert into an internet meme
3. Drag and drop the photo into your Google+ sharebox
4. Click the 'Add text' button

That's all that needs to be done you new meme is ready to be shared with all your pals and circles on Google+. You can read more about this roll-out which will be coming to all users over the next few days, the announcement was made by Colin McMillan from the G+ team. A meme is a popular and easy way to draw attention to a particular topic or event that might be calling for attention.

Facebook Meme: Lms and Tbh

Image: Facebook

Facebook have announced that some of the greatest memes of 2011 have their origin on Facebook. This is something that is quiet true because a lot of the top memes did find their growth attributed to Facebook. This was the places these memes first showed up. A good example of this would be 'Planking'. When people lie face-down arms extended by their sides and legs stretched out straight.

Facebook has with great pride announced two other memes that have been created for and exist only in Facebook and these two memes are
LMS Means- Like My Status
TBH Means - To be honest

How does LMS work: User on Facebook use LMS to ask their friends to like their status if they find something funny or interesting. A example would be 'Like my status if you think this is like super cool'. There are also 'Like my status' videos found on YouTube that plays on this meme. This meme basically asks uses friends to like their status and add comments to the post.

How does TBH work: To Be Honest is often used by Facebook users when they want to give an honest opinion and is usually used either before or after a statement. A good example would be 'TBH I don't think this is funny'. So use tbh before or after a post to bring a level of sincerity to you comments on Facebook.

lms and tbh are now used in conjuncture and a good status updated would be 'lms for a tbh'

Pizza is a Vegetable - Meme [Pics]

A bill put forth before congress wants to classify Pizza as a vegetable because of the tomato paste or sauce that is topped on a pizza. Which means if the bill is passed a child's lunch can be substituted with a slice of pizza. Law makers in congress are recommending that Pizza and French fries be considered as whole foods. For this  large food companies -- in this case ConAgra and Schwan -- can be thanked -- they pressured Congress to comply with their financial interests.

This is turning into a meme as people make fun of the concept. You can add your own pics in the comments section below. ' So I put some vegetables on your vegetable'.
