Google's 13 Birthday Doodle

Google turns 13 and they have a Google Doodle to help celebrate and announce their turning 13. The doodle itself is very quiet and nondescript. Not something loud with animation as we have seen recently from the other doodles released by Google. This one simply announces the 13th Birthday and a cake with 13 candles surrounded in the background with the letters that make up the name Google. All this within a picture frame of sorts. Google must be celebrating their birthday with a little bit of celebrations since their fledgling social networking site Google+ is not even a year old. The guys at the Googleplex will need a wait for quiet some time more to see whether their social network with really take off with the masses. There has been phenomenal growth till now but the masses need to move in and that has not yet happened. So happy birthday guys!!!

Facebook Timeline: How it works

After the f8 developers conference the main attraction that came out was the Facebook will get a new Timeline. In other works you are getting a whole new profile page and you had better like it. well it is not really all that bad and has a way of converting all Facebook users into curators of their Facebook lives. With the new profile you have space which is being called a cover. Therefore right on the top of your profile you now have more space to place a large photo of yourself, as a welcome sign. The Facebook timeline has been divided into three parts.

What is Facebook Timeline and how does it work

1. The Cover: Represents a wide and open space to fill in with your best image. Will definitely become a big hit with Facebook users as people find more and more creative uses for it.

2. Your Stories: This section allows you to highlight your most memorable posts and photos etc. This can be from the beginning of time when you started using the service. Now if you have been a longtime user of Facebook and there are posts in there you do not want your current friends to see, you can get rid of it. Facebook will give you the option to choose what shows up. With this service you can see everything you have done from the time you joined Facebook and arrange things in such an order that when people visit your profile they can see a timeline of your events and all that you have been up to on Facebook. There are privacy options so no problem. Let your creative juices flow. You can choose to highlight certain likes and friends and a whole lot of options.

3. Your Apps: Show your friends which movies you watched on Netflix, what music you have had on repeat and a whole other range of Apps. This part of your profile will be to share all your activities related to movies, music and travel etc. Pretty neat and this is really social sharing.

It comes as no surprise after all the news about Charlie Sheen and his winning campaign. That Charlie Sheen is fast becoming an established Internet Meme. With all his quotes there are now bunnies, baby-sloths, New Yorker cartoons quoting him. 

A brief history of the Charlie Sheen Meme

On Feb 24, 2011 Charlie Sheen called the Alex Jones show and lashed out against Two and a half men producer Check Lorre, calling him a AA Nazi. He lost his job and then appears on other shows saying he was 100% cured. He joins Twitter and gains 1 million followers in 124 hours. Using quotes like 'Winning' and 'Tiger Blood' and appears on YouTube calling himself the Warlock. Most recently he appears on Comedy Central Roast and brought in the ratings on cable television.

The meme continues to grow and here are a few top pics that use his famous quotes that have gained traction with internet audiences.

Wanna know what's buzzing on Google right now, it's Miss Universe 2011 and for good reasons. The winner has just been announced and it is Miss Leila Lopes from Angola. "Thank God I'm very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn't change a thing," Leila Lopes answered when asked her interview question. "I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principals from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life'. How to clean records with Wood Glue [Pics]

This is the new clean, there are videos pics and lots of information on the internet, on how to clean your records using wood glue. Yes if you want to clean your old records and play them again on your turntable this seems to be a nice way to restore and play. Get your old records out and clean them and listen to them all over again. It is recommended that you don't do this on your most important records first but get the hang of it by using 1 or 2 not so important records. To clean your old records pour a layer of glue on it, let it dry and then peel it off.  The glue recommended is TiteBond.

Jack Nicholson's Hollywood Hills Home Destroyed After Fire [Pics]

A two-story single family home owned by Hollywood actor Jack Nicholson has been destroyed in a fire. After Sir Richard Branson's home was destroyed just a couple of weeks ago it has now happened to Jack Nicholson. He does not live at this place but has rented it to William Tyan. Tyan who is a close friend of jack Nicholson has been invited by the actor to stay with him till he gets back on his feet. Tyan who was in the home when the fire started escaped unhurt and it took the firemen 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze. 85 firemen were at the scene. Nicholson lives only a few minutes away in his Mulholland Drive estate.

A cheaper iPhone 4 is on its way to help boost sales in emerging markets

Apple does not want to miss the big opportunities being provided by emerging markets especially the Asian markets. The only thing that deters Apple is the price of it's iPhone, something that is not right for lower and middle end consumers. People are willing to invest in phones but usually go for the mid-range and lower ranges in these markets. Which are controlled and ruled by companies like Nokia. Apple will now want to even enter these segments of the market being that they represent huge volumes to say the least.


Reuters reports that a new iPhone 4 is on it's way and with Asian manufactures already into production of a lower-priced version of the iPhone 4. Which will have a smaller 8 gigabyte flash drive. The new iPhone, which some call the iPhone 4S because of its largely identical appearance to the existing iPhone 4, will have a bigger touch screen, better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera


Meanwhile the iPhone 5's two manufacturers have been told to increase production capacity to 45 million units. 


The lower cost of the iPhone 4 will allow Apple to also compete against Android devices that are very popular in the mid and lower segments of the mobile phone market.

Viral images of the day: Richard Branson's Island Home burnt to cinders

This post comes as a update to the most important image and video searc h of the day. Sir Richard Branson's home on the Caribbean island which he owns; Necker, has been burnt of cinders. Kate Winslet was a guest on his home when the incident took place. She is safe and also ensure the safety of Branson's mother whom she carried out of the house to safety. The home caught fire after it was battered by Hurricane Irene.  Kate and her two children were a part of the 20 guests who were at the property at the time of the incident and the actress acted like a true heroin while saving Eve, Branson's mom. Google Street View Goes to the Amazon

Google's street view project has now gone to the Amazon jungles. The street view pike will be peddled down the amazon jungle trails while another camera will be mounted on a boat and photos taken as it floats down the river. It will photograph the Amazon and the Rio Negro rivers; the project is in association with the FAS (Foundation for Sustainable Amazon).


Google will also be training local villages to handle equipment with it will leave behind and also train them so that work continues even after the Google team leaves. 


The camera being are the same ones that are used to capture imagery of business interiors. This way the viewer will get a feel of what it's like to live and work in the Amazon, especially Amazonian community centers and schools. Still photos will be stretched into 360 degree panoramics. 


Google further said, 'For many outdoor enthusiasts, travelers and environmentalists, this creates an opportunity to experience the wonders of the Amazon, which will be accessible in a way they’d previously only dreamed about.'

[Pics] Bart Station protests called by Cyber Hacktivist Anonymous

The protests called by cyber hacktivist group Anonymous on the 15th of August in Los Angles saw the shutdown of 4 Bart stations. Anonymous protesting the killing of a homeless man in recently by a transit officer encouraged protestors to wear blood-stained shirts with 'Don't shoot, I'm unarmed'. They are also protesting the shut down San Francisco’s BART subway system in response to BART disrupting cell phone service to ward off a planned protest last week. These are lessons learned from the London Riots where social media played a big role and BlackBerry has taken a lot of blame because London rioters were using the BlackBerry messaging system which is free to send text messages and SMS's. 4 Bart stations were closed down because of the protests but no arrests were made. The decision to shutdown the stations were more for reasons of safety that anything else. protesters were shouting,  "no justice no peace/disband BART police."
