Hotspot Shield VPN secures your iPhone's or iPad's internet connection

VPN stands for virtual private network and this is what you need to make sure your internet connection does not get compromised on your iPhone, iPod or iPad. Creating one can be difficult and that's why there are third-party apps that would do just that for you. Hotspot Shield VPN from AnchorFree is one such App that once downloaded on your i OS device will let you browse the net securely.

This is especially true when you are using public Wi-Fi accounts, your Facebook or Twitter accounts could get compromised. The App however will ensure that all your data is encrypted and passed on securely. You can download and use the App for free but there are in-app purchases which will cost you about $1/month. You can however download and use the App free for seven days before you shell out any money.

So give it a try especially if you use Wi-Fi hotspots a lot and you access your iOS device when travelling.

Mini iPad arriving in 2012 ???

Apple Insider is reporting that a mini iPad could be seen in the market in the early months of 2012. According to sources it is believed that the mini iPad is to rival and take on Amazon Kindle Fire. Amazon Kindle Fire is their first foray into the touchscreen tablet market and costs just $199. The rumor that a device somewhere between an iPod and iPad from Apple is not new. This smaller device can come with iPad functionality and sit in the $200 price range. This would make the device much more appealing to a large market segment. We had previously written about a cheap iPhone that could come from Apple. This would ensure that they get into the global prepaid smartphone market which till now is untouched. In countries like India and China the market for a prepaid iPhone would be really high and would give Apple a chance to get into the global smartphone market at a very competitive level. The market till now has been enjoyed by Nokia and BlackBerry.

A mini iPad could do just that becoming a huge hit in the global markets. China especially would have a huge market for such a device, in this price range. The US and Europe could also have big demand for products in this range.

iMessage launching on Wednesday

iMessage will be out this week on Wednesday. We have already written about what iMessage is and how it works. Well just to recap iMessage is the messaging system that comes along with iOS 5. iPhone users can now send unlimited texts and messages to each other at no extra cost. Works on the lines of BlackBerry's BBM service. With the launch of iMessage, Service providers now have a cause for concern as people signup for texting plans but with iMessage you don't need a texting plan especially if most of you friends use iPhones. iPad and iPod users can also use the service if they upgrade their operating systems to the latest iOS 5. Once upgraded users can then send an unlimited number of texts and messages from their devices.

This is a killer for Verizon which makes $7 billion a year from texting fees. So the waiting is over for iPhone users who have been waiting for this update and can now enjoy unlimited texting for free. 12 Oct, 2011 is the date and make sure your device has been upgraded to iOS 5 to avail the service.

Wooden iPad [Photos]

Scammers have taken a South Carolina women for $180 and sold her an iPad - a wooden one. Know as a variation of the 'brink in a box' scam. Where the buyer orders an iPad but receives just a brick in the box. Ashley McDowell reported that she was approached by two black males who said they have bought iPads in bulk and were willing to sell her a piece for $300. Saying that she had only $180 on her the con men agreed to sell it to her. But when she opened the FedEx box containing the iPad all she found was the piece of wood with the Apple logo. There was also a Best Buy sales sticker on it. In fact it looks like a replica of the iPad complete with Safari icons and all. Scammers don't go to such lengths to come up with something that looks original  In fact the brick in the box scam is exactly what it sounds like, you get an actual brick in the box.

Kindle Cloud Reader: Web App lets you read your Kindle books, instantly.

There is a reason why Amazon is calling the Kindle Cloud reader a Web App. Apple has a problem with Kindle's iPhone App and pulled the 'buy' button on the iPad App. Basically what the button did was allow users to make purchases outside of Apple's control. which meant a loss of 30% in revenue for Apple. Apple's is know for it's tight control of all Apps that enter it's App store. which has forced companies to create web based Apps that can be used on the iPhone and iPad. One of the first web-based Apps was the one from Playboy. With Apple's tight control on not allowing adult content on to it's platforms. Companies have had to innovate.

Amazon has done just that and have created and released their own web App that can be used on the iPad. it is free to use and allows users to read all their books and purchase new ones all on Amazon.

If you ask Amazon what is the Kindle Cloud Reader a brief description on the site says 'Kindle Cloud Reader is a web app that lets you read your Kindle books, instantly.' That's as simple as it gets. the kindle Cloud Reader is available on Safari for MAC and PC, Chrome and iPad (iOS 4+). With support for additional browsers coming son. Try it out now

Apple launches try before you buy section in the App store

Apple has launched a new section in their App store called "Try Before You Buy". This section features popular Apps that are "free" or "lite". many of the lite versions will still need to be paid for once you decide to buy the App. Many users found it difficult to decide if they really needed an App without actually trying it out. Since the section features many free and lite version of Apps, it will provide a hassle free way of trying out new Apps.

This action is a clear step taken by Apple to fight against pirated Apps which are easily available on jailbroken iPhones, iPod Touch and the iPad. So this will b,e try before you buy and there is no need of pirating and sneakily getting Apps, when you can try the real thing for free.  Uses can sample Apps and not be bothered about pirated versions of the same which has already cost the App store half a billion dollars.

You can find this new section under the “Free on the App Store” heading. The section currently holds 98 apps, including the “lite” renditions games such as Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown, Metal Gear Solid Touch and Labyrinth 2, free adaptations of apps such as Moodagent and AccuTerra.

Currently there are 98 Apps and we hope all the Apps land in this section. Once you try the Lite version of an App, you would still need to pay for the full version if you decide to purchase it.

BlackBerry BlackPad

What is the BlackBerry BlackPad?

Research In Motion (RIM) makers of the popular BalckBerry Smartphone, plan to introduce a new tablet computer similar to the iPad. This according to Bloomberg. The new Blackpad is reported to be similar in size to the iPad, would include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and allow tethering to BlackBerrys. An addition to this new device would be a front facing camera, something not found in the iPad.

There is no official statement to this effect from the company. So how much truth there is to this story remains to be seen.

RIM is stepping up its competition with Apple on multiple fronts. The company is hosting an event in New York Aug. 3 at which it will debut its BlackBerry 9800 slider phone, according to one person familiar with its plans. The device will feature a full touchscreen like Apple’s iPhone and a slideout Qwerty keyboard to allow for easy e-mail typing, the person said.

It has also been reported that RIM has taken over the domain Blackpad.com.

So if RIM is serious about taking on Apple and Apple type devices will they succeed. Given that Apple now has a cult like following. Apple is looked at like a religion these days with Steve Jobs the prophet leading with his staff and giving the people the Tablet. This Moses type device seems to belong only to the prophet who brought it down to ordinary people.

To expect people to leave a device that has the Apple logo and buy something else seems even sacrilegious theses days. More than anything else, Steve Jobs and Apple are respected by people because he was thrown out into exile and came back to bring change into people's lives.

That is not to say that other companies can't succeed. But companies who copy will always be known as such. It is better to bring out something new and different that just imitating. Though it is not wrong. Something new and revolutionary will garner more sales and more good will for the product.
