What is Google's Project loon and how does it work

Project Loon by Google was born out of the idea - how to get the world connected. Because, a majority of the world is not connected to the internet. There are some remote places on earth, that don't have internet at all. There are other places where 1 out of every 10,000 people have internet. Fast connections not being available at all. A majority of the world is not connected to the internet. If you have a fast internet connection, you should feel blessed, most of us take it for granted. Google has come up with an idea so crazy it's being called Project Loon. Yes, it might be short for balloon - since it involves big balloons floating in the stratosphere. Google says that this might be the fastest and most cost-effective way to get people in the hinterlands connected to the internet. Testing of the project has already begun in New Zealand.

How it works.

Project Loon BalloonGoogle sends up big balloons in the sky, 20 kilometers high - plans fly below 10 kilometers; so no interference with air traffic. These are solar-powered and move with the winds that circle the globe. These balloons are connected with each, other and their control stations. Users have an antenna - shaped like a balloon that connect to these balloons in the sky. Internet is transmitted and everyone can stay connected. These balloons can also be brought down for maintenance and recycling once their life is over.

These balloons in the stratosphere follow air currents and can be controlled from the ground. These air-currents circle the earth in a west to east direction. So when one balloon leaves the area another one is ready to take its place. This way eventually, the entire earth can get fast and speedy internet connections. These speeds will be similar to 3G speeds of today and even faster.

You can read more here at Project Loon. Balloon-powered Internet for everyone.

Eric Schmidt - Google's Executive Chairman says that there is no more argument anymore. YouTube wins, TV is over the future is already here. Speaking at a gathering of advertising executives Eric Schmidt has made it clear that Internet Video is not a rival anymore - TV is over. YouTube has become so popular that it receives over 1 billion visitors every month. There is now an entire younger generation that has become used to amateur video shot by people like themselves from around the world. TV vs YouTube - YouTube WinsOnly Google and Facebook gets more online visitors that YouTube. The Video sharing site has grown phenomenally and has surpassed all expectations. In the US more 18 - 34 year-olds watch YouTube more than any other cable network. This shows the shift of people watching and enjoying both amateur and professional broadcasts on YouTube. Physics teacher does a Google Glass hangout at the large hadron collider [Video]

So here's the story about the video you see below. One thing I saw being debated on CNN yesterday was the application of Google Glass. Throughout the discussion one thing was very clear - Google Glass would be good for teaching and that's exactly what one physics professor did. Andrew Vanden Heuvel who teaches physics online especially for schools that don't offer advanced physics courses. Did something really cool. He got a chance to experiment with Google Glass and wore it on a field trip to CERN in Switzerland. CERN is the place to go to if you want to look back to the very beginning of the universe.

physics teacher takes google glass to CERNCERN is also the birthplace of the World Wide Web WWW - yeah, the internet. In the video you get to see the large hadron collider. Andrew also gets on a cycle adn takes a ride down the 27 km tunnel, which his brothers students get to watch the whole thing. This is a pretty amazing video and thanks to Google Glass - these kind of techie things are possible. Andrew also has a blog called 'Teaching with Google Glass', which you can follow to check out his Google Glass Classes.

Acer Aspira R7

Acer have made a huge announcement and it is pretty big news. They have a new device out called the 'Acer Aspira R7 - the first thing you notice is that it's a nice looking device. It's part laptop, part tablet, and part desktop. Yeah, that's right it can be used as a tablet or laptop or desktop. The reason behind all of this according to Acer is that while touchscreens are nice they are not suited to all purposes and can also be quite messy. Traditional devices are good but to be more human and suit all situations there is a little bit of physical flexibility that is needed. After all the device is to be used by humans and therefore if it can morph into the desired device, it makes things that much more easier to handle.

The new Acer Aspira R7All this is made possible through something they called "Ezel" hinge. This hinge is really flexible and the screen can be moved around, flipped upside down or rotated. The video below will give you clear visuals and make things clearer. When it comes to its physical stats, here's what we know so far. It has a 15" display, 1080p display, choose between i5 and i7 processors. It's also up for pre-order now for $999. The backlit keys are smooth and colorful and the screen is easy to type on. Need to do a sketch you can always use a stylus and get your work done. So check out the video below for more and please leave a comment with what you think about the new R7. The keyboard has been moved upfront and the trackpad has been moved back.

Google Glass Hacked

Google Glass the futuristic tech gadget from Google has been hacked. Google Glass must have been a target for hackers ever since its release. With a name like Glass it was begging for hackers to try and tinker with it. That is exactly what has been done by Jay Freeman also known as Saurik, who created the Cydia App store for JailBreak iOS phones did just that. With the hack he has successfully gained root access to Google Glass.

Google Glass hackedThe way he went about it was that, after discovering that Google Glass ran on Android 4.0.4 he began testing older known exploits and discovered that one exploit worked. The exploit released by a hacker that goes by the name of B1nary, allowed him full access to Google Glass operating system. he says he is not really sure what he would be able to do with the root access. There are some things that could be possible like, storing files locally and not on Google servers. he is not the first to gain root access to Google Glass.

So how has Google responded to the hack. Tim Bray Google Staffer says 'Google Glass is hackable, Duh. As usual Google is already a step ahead. hackers however are some really cool dudes, who have immensely help Tech become cleaner and safer.
