Google Glasses Video

Google co-founder Sergey Brin wearing Google Glasses: Credit Thomas Hawk

Google unveiled to the world sometime in early April, their concept of augmented reality glasses, know as Project Glass. These far out there sci-fi glasses has the ability like none before to take video, check email, give you voice direction by connecting to maps and a host of other features. This futuristic piece of eye-wear also come with aesthetic sense and makes the wearer look good in addition to the feel good aspect of wearing eye-wear that can do a whole log of work for you. We have already written about these glasses and you can read about it here.

Google has now gone a step further and have released the first video shot entirely using Google Glasses. The video has someone from the Google team doing backflips on a trampoline. The video is shot in 720p and has decent quality. In addition to shooting video, Google Glasses can set your day up for you and can do almost anything a SmartPhone can. Google was the first to announce these AR Glasses (Augmented Reality) since then there are other companies who have also said they are working on AR Glasses themselves. So Google is not alone but are the only ones who seem to be making steady progress. There is no clue as to when these glasses would actually be available as it is still in the prototype stage. It could be sometime before their smartphone for the face is actually available for people to use.

That's right if Google cannot find the answer then you question is really not even a question according to many users. Here are a few more interesting Tweets being offered up by users on Twitter.

1. If Google could come to my exams with me, then I would be happy
2.  If Google was in my mind I would be the smartest person ON EARTH!
3. If Google can tell us where we left our keys at life would be easier.

So.cl Microsoft's Social Network (SOCL): How does it work [Guide]

so.cl (SOCL) is a social network launched by Microsoft. They claim it is not a ripoff of any of the other social networking sites out there like Google+, Pinterest or Twitter. However once you login the feed has a strong resemblance to Google+ with a few features from Twitter and Pinterest thrown in. So we decide to do a tutorial on how So.cl works and please let us know what you think in the comments section below.

How to get started:
You can use your Facebook ID or your Windows Live ID to join the site. Once you login with any of these IDs you are in the site without any further hassle. Apart from checking the box to agree to their terms and conditions. You also have to be above 18 to join.

I do not want So.cl posting to my Facebook Timeline and profile
When you signup with your Facebook ID the App will ask for permission to post on your Facebook profile choose never. Also when asked who can view your activity choose 'Only Me'. This will ensure that So.cl will not post to your Facebook and all you So.cl activity is visible only to you.

What happens when I login:
You see a search bar right on top which asks you, What are you interested in?. You can then enter your areas of interest and get a whole lot of available information in your feed. The search bar has three icons. 1. Search icon, 2. Comment bubble - to post a status update 3. Globe icon - to either let people see what you're searching for or click it and you get a lock icon which will not make your searches public. Your search terms are made public for the purpose of social engagement. You can turn this on or off by clicking on the Globe icon.

What happens when I enter a search term:
I entered 'Jim Morrison' into the search bar and the first result was from a Wikipedia article on Jim and then photos and other info. Once someone creates a search for Jim that is also shared. So if you search for a term that other people have also entered. You get to see their names and what they have searched for. This is like a social search engine.

Video Parties: How does this work
Video parties are much like Google+ hangouts. Give you party a name invite friends and then just hangout. You parties are made public across the network but you can clear your history at any time. If you are familiar with Google+ hangouts then this works quiet the same. Enter a name for your party invite people and all of you can then comment and interact around the same video. The only difference is that you cannot start a video chat with your friends. Once you enter a search term a YouTube video shows up and you are your people can have a party around this video. Comment on this video and get the party going. You are also fee to join people's video parties and share in the social interection with people across the site.

How do I clear my history on So.cl
To do this you would need to click the cog icon found at the top right-hand corner and then click on Privacy and then clear my So.cl history and you're done.

How is it different from other sites like Google+ and Facebook.
Well everyone can interact with everyone. There are no restrictions, kind of like Twitter with when you click on Feed you can see other people's feeds also. Like once big social party. This is something not avialble with other closed networks like Google+ and Facebook

So let us know what you think about the new SOCL social networking site from Microsoft in the comments section below.

Google Search supercharged with Knowledge Graph

Google has done something to really improve search. The new improvement is being called 'Knowledge Graph'. This according to Google is one of their first steps in moving from becoming a knowledge engine instead of just an information engine. So what is this new improvement and how will it work

Google Knowledge Graph: How does it work
To begin with it must be noted that to fulfill the requirements of its knowledge graph Google has had to compromise on its prime advertising real-estate space located on the right-hand column. When you search on Google what you get now is results that have a lot more related information. So if you search for Leonardo da Vinci you still get to see the result from Wikipedia that we are all used to but now you also get other useful info thrown at you. You get a brief bio about the Renaissance painter, where he was born who his parents were and where he is buried. You also get a list of famous works from that era. If you are searching for let's say a famous author, you get a list of his best books and also related authors. So if someone searches for a particular author and then moved on to the next. Google will offer you the knowledge of the crowd and you can also see other people related to that genre. So a lot of what is displayed comes from the knowledge of users which seems to be the best way to go. Because if you are searching for something that not much information is avialble online, users are the best source of information on where to go next. You should try it out now. Please leave a comment below about what you think about Google's Knowledge Graph. You can check it out for yourself by going to www.google.com

Use Google Image search to quickly find related information and photos

Google image search can be quiet powerful and deliver a wealth of information regarding photos you might want to research. Sometime when you go to Google image search and type in your search for a specific image. You might not really get what your looking for. If you however have one photo on your PC or Mobile Device this could be quiet helpful. If you use the same picture in Google's image search you can find related photos from the same batch. Information about where that photo was taken and the image size. You can then further drill down to other photos from that collection. If you do not know who is in the picture or the place it was taken out in. Google will deliver all this information if the photos has been fairly popular on the internet. If the photo is not popular, you can at least find the site where the photo might be hosted.

How to use Google image search with a photograph.

1. Go to Google.com
2. Click on image search. You can choose your search options like safe search on or off.
3. Click on the small photo icon found at the end of the search bar and then upload the photo to Google search.
4. You will now get basic answers like size of the photo, location it was taken in and other related photos. Google will also try to guess whose face is in the picture.

This will definitely help you if you are researching a specific photo and would like to find related information and other photos from the same batch. You can also find out on how many other sites the photo appears. Who is the designer, author or chef photographer of the image. Please leave your feedback in the comments section below.

Use a Million Short search engine to see results with the top million removed

Million Short is a search engine with a difference you can enter your search query and then discover results with the top million removed. Now, how is this significant you might want to ask. For starters, it lets you discover and view results that you might otherwise never have known existed. Also a lot of the spammy pages usually found on the top of search engine results are not found. What you are left with are results that belong way down the line and can be kind of fun. It is also good for research giving you insights into results and pages that you would not normally have come across. You know when you type a query into Google, Bing or Yahoo you always see results from sites like Wikipedia, with this search engine you are not going to see results from these sites. What you get is the whole other perspective.

Million Short: How does it work
You simple go to the search engine and type in your query. Once you do that and hit enter you are served up you results with short of the top million usual results. You can then decide how short you want your results. You can then also decide how short by - answers you want to receive. Short by 100k results, 10k results, thousands from results and 100 from results. If you decide you want normal results without cutting anything short from the drop-down below remove from top, you can select don't remove any sites. Selecting this option will bring you results that are normal. Anyways' once you search with the top million removed you can results and a list of the sites that have been removed will appear on the right-hand column.  if you would like to continue search with your favorite sites included, click on manager settings and add 'My included sites' or 'My excluded sites'. You can also choose your adult filter to low medium or high. This web app can be quiet good fun and you need to give it a twirl. You can also add million short to your web browser. So have fun and let us know your feedback in the comments section below.

Play Google's Zerg Rush now

Google has another Easter Egg out and it's called 'Zer Rush', taking its name from the real-time game Starcraft. The Zerg race is know to mass produce offensive units in a short span of time. Enabling the player to overpower with the sheer power of numbers creating a 'Rush'.

So what happens when you type 'Zerg Rush' into Google.com
You get the normal answers to this query but as you being to go through the search results little O's start dropping form the top and begin to chew away at your results and eat it right out of the page. The only way for you to prevent this is to use your mouse pointer and destroy the little O's or Zerglings. At the end of the game you can share your scores on Google+. Also once the game is over all the little o's form into two big GG- which is gaming slang for good game.
Just type 'Zerg Rush' into Google to play around with this Easter Egg.

Google+: How to customize your Hovercard, Name Card or Business Card

Google+ has been growing and is on track to reach 400 million by the end of this year. With such massive numbers you can make the most of it by using something that is known as a hovercard. It works something like a name card of a business card for your Google+ profile.

What is a Hovercard
When you are going through all your Google+ post on your page and you hover over someone's name. A small pop-up appears with a photo of that person and a tag line. If you have more than one photo uploaded then all those photos will show. The tag line is something people get to read and know more about you when they find either your posts or find your profile on Google+. You can also creatively edit your photos and your cover photo to create an amazing visual display.

How to edit your Hovercard
1. Login to Google+
2. Click on Profile
3. Click on Edit profile
4. Beside 'Works At' click Edit
5. In the Employer name bar fill in your tag line. (Some people have just the name of the employer while other have a brief description. This is because they filled in more content into that field. You can fill in as more than  just your employer's name)
6. Check the box beside current
7. Click on finish editing
8. You're done

You might have to log-out and login in again for it to show up. This works with the new Google+ design

Now even when people search for you your current employer will be shown below your name. if you have added a description then this will be shown.

Here is a small video if you want the visuals.

Google Glasses: Augmented Reality Glasses from Google

If you look at the pictures of the glasses in this post the first question people are asking on the internet is will you wear them. The glasses however are not built for style but more as a utility. It is one of Google's ambitious projects to make technology work for you when you want and then get it out of the way when you don't. So if you see someone with these glasses on you know they are from Google and testing their new sci-fi glasses.

How do the Google Glasses work.
For one it is always connected to the internet and integrates with various kinds of services. The UI shows the person in the video below going about his daily business and able to view the weather outside, receive and make voice and video calls, check-in to places and find directions to places. He is able to do all this will simply voice commands and auto-suggestions that seem to pop-up at exactly the right places. Couple of analysts have said the glasses will have 3G and 4G capability to make all this possible

Google reveled these glasses to the world in a Google+ post removing the veil of speculation that had been hanging over their pet project. The whole concept seems so futuristic that is difficult to even imagine these eye-wear products being available in the market for a very long time. The reason why these Googlers shared this project is because they want to start a conversation and get feedback. They need not wait too long for feedback as news of these amazing glasses has spread all across the internet and is all over the news. One point that most users are talking about is that: will ads pop-up? So what do you think about these glasses and would you wear em?

Google Maps: Find Out Your Trip Duration Based On Current Traffic updates

Google Maps on your Android phone just got better. Google has now factored in live data to help yo better plan your trip. So if your planing to go to the airport and need to know which mode of transport to you. Check Google maps for a more detailed live traffic analysis to decide how to travel. Google maps will help you estimate the length of time of your journey and wherever information the new live traffic feature will analyze current traffic conditions and estimate the length of time of your journey. So once you know how long your drive is going to take you can then decide which mode of transport to use. A good example would be that based on estimated travel time you can decide whether to take the train or the taxi to the airport.

With up-to-data traffic reporting which keeps on getting refreshed you can also plot several courses to reach your destination. As you are driving you can also be alerted about traffic jams up ahead and quickly change your route to arrive on time. Current traffic data is available only in a few places and more destinations will be added soon. For now it is only in large metropolitan areas in the US. So the next time you want to compare driving time vs transit time Google maps can help you decide. Which will it be public transit or you driving.

2. use the new blogger interface

3. Click on more options

4. Click on settings

5. Click on search preferences

6. Beside Meta Tags description click on edit

7. You have 150 characters to use and create a short description

8. Click on Save Changes

9. You're done

You blog will now appear with a Search Description on search engines along with Meta Tags. Meta Tags are a good way for website and blog owners to provide information to Google on what their websites or blogs are all about. You can check out the Google webmaster help section to learn more about Meta Tags. No matter what SEO practices you follow if content is not good and does not enhance visitor experience then all else will fail.

How does Google Play work

Google Play the new service from Google has gone live today. The service is being rolled out in a phased manner and will be available to everyone across the world soon. So what will you be able to do with Google Play. Google Play will work as a central hub for all your Apps, Movies, Music, eBooks and Games.

How does Google Play work

Buy or install anyone of these and it is immediately available on all your devices and on the web with no syncing required. So get yourself a new eBook and start reading on your reader and later pick up from where you left-off on the web. Start watching a movie on the small-screen and later move to your flat-screen device. So when you install a new game or app on one device it will then become available on all your devices and on the web. So Google Play becomes the new name for the place where you can view all your media.

This is not something new as Google's Android Market, Music, Movies and eBooks already enjoy this functionality. Google Play however will become the new home to find all your media which you can then access from your phone, tablet, pc or just about any other device.

How to delete, remove or disable all your Google Search history before Google's new privacy policy takes effect on March 1st

We can infer that many people on the internet are worried about Google's new privacy policy that is going to take effect on March 1st. Once the new policy comes into effect all Google's products will be clubbed as one  in terms of search history and privacy. So all your search history: YouTube, Google+, Google etc will be stored as one. Previously if you searched Google then your search history was stored only in relation to your search and not clubbed with your YouTube history. All this will change and all your history across all Google sites will not be clubbed together. If you are worried that particular sensitive information about you might be stored. Now is your chance to change things and remove all web history from Google. Once you remove all web history, all your search history will be erased and Google will no longer record your search and web history. So do this now and Google will stop recording all your search history across all it's products like Google, Google+ and YouTube.

How to remove and clear all search and web history on Google
1. Go to www.google.com/history
2. Click 'Remove all Web History'. Your Web history will also be paused till you enable it again.
3. You're done

Note: This does not mean that Google will not store information about you to help serve better search results etc but this info can also be demanded by the law at any time. Stopping your search history will reduce all records Google keeps about you and also protect your search privacy.

How to disable or remove +1 from Adsense

Google's Adsense program announced sometime ago that Adsense Ads especially the ones with image and rich media ads will get a +1 button. The +1 button has been added for people to +1 ads and therefore when a friend sees that another friend has liked this ad they will also want to check it out. This might bring in much more revenue for publishers. The idea has been to create social ads. So by default if you have your ads set to display image and rich media ads, it comes along with a +1 button. The button shows recommendations from people and increase the ads social value.

Now this is still in a testing stage and you as a blog owner or publisher can experiment with it. You can choose to have the +1 button or remove it. It helps increase revenue for some and might not work as good for others. You will need to decide which ads work best for you.

How to remove the +1 button from your Google Adsense ads
1. Login to Adsense
2. Click on Allow & block ads
3. Click on advanced settings (left-hand column)
4. Under social ads preference click on the box next to the tick symbol and you get a stop symbol
5. Click stop and the +1 button will stop appearing on your ads.
