GoDaddy's initial support of the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), the controversial anti-piracy bill in the US, set of a chain reaction with may large internet companies blacking out. All of this to stop the SOPA/PIPA bills that many users believed to be a threat to freedom on the internet. The boycott started on Reddit and soon many other websites followed. GoDaddy initially offered support for the SOPA bill and once that became public knowledge, people who used GoDaddy as their website host decided to ditch the service and leave. Many webmasters started transferring their domain's off of GoDaddy servers and this led to a trend in people migrating away from GoDaddy.
