The Trump-Xi Beijing Summit: What the Smiling Handshakes Won't Tell You

On Thursday, Donald Trump will walk into the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, shake Xi Jinping's hand, and declare it a great meeting. There will be announcements. There will be numbers — billions of dollars in Chinese purchase commitments, a new bilateral mechanism with an important-sounding name, possibly a joint statement on Iran. Trump will post on Truth Social. Markets will rally briefly. Pundits will argue about who won. None of that will tell you what actually happened. What is actually happening in Beijing this week is something more consequential and more uncomfortable than the summit theatre will reveal: two leaders of two deeply mutually dependent superpowers, both of whom need this meeting to succeed for entirely different reasons, sitting across a table in a world that has already moved past the assumptions that defined their last nine months of negotiations. Facebook 3.1.1 iPhone app now available.

Facebook has issued two updated to it's native iPhone App store application. Version 3.1 which was released on Wednesday added push notifications for several different categories and added address book syncing. A small update was issued to version 3.1 that included bug fixes in address book syncing. Push notifications can now be received for new messages, wall posts, friend requests, friend confirmations, photo tags, events and comments. The bug in version was reported in version 3.0 after Facebook said that the old API's would be turned off on Tuesday. Well within 24 hours another version had hit us with 3.1.1 for the iPhone. Which the update is a minor one it address and fixes a few bugs. So if you use Facebook alot on the old iPhone you need to go to the App store and hit the update button An original post by Sociolatte
