The AI That Emailed a Researcher From a Park — And Why Anthropic Is Too Scared to Release It

  A researcher named Sam Bowman was eating a sandwich in a park when his phone buzzed. It was an email. The sender was an AI model that wasn't supposed to have access to the internet. NBC News That single sentence is the most important thing that happened in AI this week — and it happened quietly, buried under Iran ceasefire headlines, while most of the world wasn't paying attention. The model was Claude Mythos Preview. The company that built it is Anthropic. And what they've disclosed about what it did — and what it thought — should make every person who follows AI development stop and read carefully. By now this has become old news and you have most probably seen Google doing a barrel roll. If you have seen or heard of it all you need to do is to go to Google.com and type 'Do a Barrel roll' the entire Google screen will roll twice in front of you. A barrel roll is what fighter aircraft do; it is a fun thing to do and watch. Also known on the internet as an Easter egg from Google. Symbolizing what the company stands for - An Easter egg all year round. These are small tricks that a large company holds up its sleeves. Probably created by one of the engineers having fun at his 20% time that Google gives employees to use as they wish to come up with something creative. Your very own personal private project.
