Zynga Launches New Facebook Game Empires & Allies

Zynga will launch a new game for Facebook tomorrow called 'Empires and Allies'. The company has been very successful with it's other social games on Facebook 'FarmVille, PetVille, CityVille' etc. This all new strategy game is Zynga's first ever. In this game players will need to take the role of commando needing to rebuild their town after an attack by an evil general. The game does have a lot borrowed from other Zynga games, like in CityVille the buildings will produce resources for the player to harvest.

The combat portion of the game is inspired by real-time strategy games like  'Command & Conquer' and 'Battle of middle earth'. Players can select a world view map of all other islands and choose one to battle on. Players need to do battle and conquer a series of Islands which eventually lead to the big boss. Friends can be called upon to help.Friends who help players will receive what is known as 'Honor Points'.

The best part is that the game will involve ships and planes and cruise missiles,the whole load. With B52s, midair refueling and all the weapons that come with modern warfare games. This will be completely different from all other Zynga games.

Forrest Gump or Forest Gump a Twitter Controversy

Well Forrest Gump is Trending on Twitter because it was aired on TNT. People immediately started Tweeting that the movie was on and that they were watching it. They are also using quotes like, you know the famous one 'Life is like a box of chocolates', well yes all of that. Then there was this Tweet which said Isn't it 'Forrest Gump', not 'Forest Gump'?. OK, so here came the correction with the right spelling, you think Twitter users would change and start spelling it as 'Forrest' no way, not the case at all.  I'm sure Tom Hanks wouldn't mind. 


The crowd it seems has not even taken notice and all for a good reason. Forest sounds right and that is what they go with. Spelling or not the movie is great and worth watching every time it airs. I never get tired anyway.  

What is a Cinemagraph and how to create one

A cinemagraph is not a photo and not quiet a video. It is simply a more sophisticated for of an animated GIF.  As far as their image formats are concerned they are like animated GIFs the only difference being that only a portion of the photograph is moving which adds a really artistic touch to the whole thing.

If you look at the images in this post you will notice that they are still images but one portion of the picture is moving. This is a Cinemagraph.

Developed by Jamie Beck & Kevin Burg this technique is growing fast and becoming the rage on the internet. After all it brings in an artistic touch and quality that was not possible before. The technique uses a still photography and video to unfreeze a photo in time.

@Lulzsec Hacks PBS and runs a story that Tupac is alive

The computer systems at PBS was hacked for a short while and the hackers posted a fake store on the news site claiming that Tupac was still alive and living in New Zealand. The group who calls themselves The Lulz Boat @Lulzsec on Twitter have claimed responsibility and their last posts still made fun of PBS. 

In a post just 20 minutes ago the group had this to say

 "Hey @PBS admins, you still trying to regain control? The Lulz Boat sails through your horrendously-outdated kernels! #Sownage next, folks."

Looks like the group have taken full control of their actions and are daring enough to brag about it on Twitter. The group already have 2,732 followers on Twitter and this seems to be growing. They are bound to get a lot more followers becasue a group that can hack so easily and boast about it brazenly will definitely attract more and more people.

Prominent rapper Tupac has been found alive and well in a small resort in New Zealand, locals report. The small town - unnamed due to security risks - allegedly housed Tupac and Biggie Smalls (another rapper) for several years. One local, David File, recently passed away, leaving evidence and reports of Tupac's visit in a diary, which he requested be shipped to his family in the United States.

Elephant Attack [PICS]

Found this set of 7 photos of an angry elephant attack in Africa. Have not been able to trace the owner of the pics but they are incredible. It shows an elephant walking along a jungle track that is also used by sightseeing tourists in their vehicles. One car tries to overtake the elephant and squeeze real close but angers the elephant. China's Blue Army

China has admitted for the first time that 'The Blue Army' does exist. The blue army is a team of 30-strong commando unit of cyber warriors. Whose main purpose is to protect the country's military and the people's liberation army from outside attack. The Blue Army is currently under the command of  Guangdong Military Command. 

The members were chosen from a very large talent pool which consist of soldiers, college students and other members of society. The resources go very deep and a lot of cash has been invested. Confirming suspicions from many governments around the world that a number of cyber attacks originated in China.

The army is believed to now be in existence for two years.The announcement was made by Chinese Defense Spokesman Geng Yansheng. The Blue Army was set up for defense purposes he said and added that The Blue Army was second to none in the world. Also stating that a simulated Cyberattack 4 times the size of the Blue Army were set up in mock battle.

China seems to be all about protecting itself from outside attack in any form. After all the censorship and alienating  it's people from the internet. They would now like to snoop around and also steel important information. The west firmly believes that Cyberattacks many of which originate in China and specifically in Shaoxing city.

Sean Kingston has been hospitalized in Miami Sunday night after he crashed into a bridge with his personal watercraft. He has been admitted to Jackson Memorial after being rescued from the water by a good Samaritan. He was with a personal female friend at the time of the accident. Sean Kingston bust on the music scene with his hit "Beautiful Girls" in 2007.

People are Tweeting about the accident and there are two hashtags being used are #prayforseankingston and #Jet Ski Crash. Sean Kingston is now trending on Twitter as People are worried and Tweeting "Please pray for him". It is amazing with Twitter how many people can tweet their concern and spread the word. 

One Twitter user said " Sean Kingston got in a very severe Jet Ski Crash. Hes being treated in the hospital as we speak. So pray for him!"

What is Apple iCloud and how does it work

iCloud is the cloud service that Apple is expected to announce during the upcoming WWDC conference in June. The iCloud is a streaming music service that Apple will utilize to revolutionize the music industry. As of now we know that Apple will release their cloud service to users of their products and the best guess is that it will be called iCloud. They already have the support of Sony, EMI, Warner Music and now maybe even Universal. With the support of these major record labels. Apple is expected to have no competition from Google and Amazon who have both released their cloud services. 

How will iCloud work?

Details that have emerged give details about the service being able to scan all music in your library and then mirroring them in the cloud. The service will then go through your entire library and find music with low quality and replace it with a better quality track. Users will then be able to stream their music form PCs, iPhones, iPads and maybe even cars. 

How much will it cost?

As of now it is hard to say whether the service will be free or will there be a charge. Apple must have had to pay up dearly to all the recording companies to for the use of all this music. This is something we will need to wait and see.

A cloud-based music service basically allows you to store and backup all your music from the cloud network rather from a local server. These large cloud-networks do all the work for you and you do not need a lot of hardware or software on your system as the cloud takes care of it for you.

The first person to cross the 10 million mark on Twitter was Lady gaga. it's now Bieber's turn to achieve this milestone now. When Lady Gaga reached the 10 million mark it was a first on Twitter. This happened sometime as she was finishing her "Monsters Ball" tour after the release of "Judas" her hit single. Justin Bieber it seems is not far behind with over 10 million fans on Twitter. Celebrities have the largest fan base on Twitter and here is proof.


The fight between the "little Monsters' and 'Beliebers' continue with each group trying to outdo then other. Die-hard fans from both groups must be proud of this. Although only 17 the young singer has accomplished a lot in his music career.

PayPal sues Google

Osama ( no pun intended) Bedier a former PayPal executive now at Google, stole confidential information from the company before joining Google, the company filed in a lawsuit. They also went on to say  Stephanie Tilenius, another ex-PayPal executive now at Google, violated contractual obligations by recruiting Bedier, PayPal said. According to the compliant Google and Beider misappropriated PayPal secrets by disclosing them to Google and other major retailers. 


Former Ebay employee Tilenius contacted Beider over Facebook and sent him messages saying she had something huge for him against contract agreement not to recruit PayPal employees. Google is defending the right of employees to seek better opportunities. Therefore there could be no case. 


All this came about after Google announced "Google Wallet" for mobile payments. The ability to tap your credit-card linked phone to a payment terminal to pay for things. Google Wallet has been the rage ever since it was announced a few days ago. 

Mashable hits 50 million pageviews per month

Pete Cashmore from Mashable has just announced that the website has hit 50 million pageviews this month which is a 10 million increase from the month before. 2011 is going to be the big growth year for Mashable. Pete Cashmore started the blog in 2005 as a 19 year old kid sick in bed. From then on it's growth has been phenomenal  and there is no signs of stagnation at all. Mashable has now reached 50 employees and growing.

What is Crowdsourcing and how does it work

Crowdsourcing can go by many names today, crowdfunding, crowdcasting, open sourcing, mass collobration, Crowdcreation, Crowdvoting, Crowd wisdom or Wikinomics. Whatever you might want to call it, the concept is very simple. Crowdsourcing is the act whereby companies make an open call to a large number of people to help solve a problem through collaboration by a large community or group of people.

A fine example of this could be Wikipedia, where all the editors are normal people who use the internet and are not employed by Wikipedia. This is a collaboration of 1000s of people who have worked and shared their knowledge and thereby making it public available to anyone with an internet connection.

Companies might use these sourcing strategies from time to time to bring issues to a large number of people. Sourcing their ides, strategies and whatever else might be needed to help solve a problem or simply generate a new business ides.

The phrase was first coned by Jeff Howe in 2006, the term has now come to be widely used on the web as more and more companies use crowdsourcing to help them as harnessing the power of available minds might be more productive than using the same old minds all the time. This concept of distributed problem solving and production model broadcasts it's problems to a large group of unknown solvers and hopes to attain a solution through the power of a large number of people who have the relevant experience and or maybe just the brainpower to help contribute.

Gmail People Wigdet

Google is rolling out a new widget within it's popular Gmail service and they are calling it 'People Widget'. It is a very simple widget that you will see inside your Gmail beginning maybe midweek next. This widget will be located on the right-hand side of your messages. When you go to a particular email message you will now be able to see snippets of recent conversations with them or all participants in the email message. You can see recent Buzz conversations if they are using Buzz and recent Docs shared in Google docs and calendar events. 


So, with this widget you can now expect to see contacts and conversations pop up that you might have forgotten about. Something important that might have slipped you mind might also be thrown up.  Using the people widget you will easily be able to start a group chat or schedule a meeting with groups of people.

Dropbox: how to share a folder

Dropbox is growing in popularity with uses saving 1 million files every 5 minutes. You can upload all the files you want and share it with other uses. You can share by creating a new shard folder or share an existing one. Once you share it and add other members to the folder it will appear in their own Dropbox just as it appears in yours. So any changes you make to a shared folder means everyone who is a part of that shared folder gets to know immediately. 

How to create a new shared folder in Dropbox, you need to simply click on the 'Share a folder' button from the files or sharing tab of your Dropbox.

How to share an existing folder using your Dropbox. Make sure the folder is first located in your Dropbox folder. 

Using Dropbox desktop application 

1. Open the Dropbox folder

2. Right-click on the folder you want to share, a drop-down menu will appear

3. Click on Dropbox and then click on share this folder

4. You are redirected to the sharing page on the Dropbox website

5. enter the email addresses of the people you want to share the folder with

6. You can add a personal message if you would like to

7. Click on share folder

8. Your Done

How It Works

In the Build menu you can see if a business is upgradeable.You will also see a star above your current business supply and collect icons, which also means that your business can be upgraded.



Once you have the business built, you can hover over it to see your current Upgrade Progress.

There are a few different ways to upgrade:

• Supplying: Every time you supply your business it gains +1 to upgrade progress.
• Crew: Each crew member that you add gives your business +10 (+20 at level 2) to upgrade progress.
• City Cash: For 2 City Cash you can add +1 to upgrade progress.
• Tour Buses: For each tour bus you send to an upgradeable business it gains +1 upgrade progress.

Whichever method you choose, you will see your progress in the mastery window as well as when you hover your cursor over a business.



Once your business is ready to upgrade, you'll see a hammer icon over your building. Let's do it!



Now that your business has been upgraded to Level 2, the building and number of stars will update to reflect your business level.



Level 3

Repeat the process and get to Level 3 to get the full benefit of Business Mastery. Remember that a level 3 business can hold more goods and will give you a better payout ratio!

How to insert images in Google Spreadsheets

This comes as really good news, the fact that you can now insert images in Google Spreadsheets. With this you can now add an image already stored no your PC, or search for one online and add it or you can add a image, photo or snap from your Picasa web albums. 

To add an image in Google Spreadsheets

1. Click on insert

2. Select image

3. Choose file you would like to insert

How to add images into an individular cell in Google Spreadsheets

1. Highlight the cell

2. Click F2 to enter formula mode

3. Type =image ('URL'). URL will be the public location of the image

By default the image will fit inside the selected cell. If you would like to make the image larger or alter the size. You would need to play with the formula. For instance =image("URL",2) will stretch the image to fit inside the selected cell and =image("URL",3) will insert the image in it's original size.

Is Planking Dangerous?

Planking is all over the news these days. Planking involves lying face-down with the arms by your side, fingers pointing outward and your legs stretched with your toes pointing outward. Well, mostly like that anyway. 


There are quiet a few plankers who have lost their jobs and one Aussie man who has lost his life. Planking is really Popular in Australia where the sport if it can be called one has been growing and growing. It is essentially not a dangerous thing but there are a few views that can make it dangerous. 


Woolworth in Australia has already sacked staff for planking and McDonald's have launched an investigation into staff who planked on the counter. Woolies are now denying that they sacked the 8 staff caught planking. There has been one Aussie man who lost his life and another female who has been reported injured after planking.

Taken in its innocent spirit planking is not dangerous at all it is just a harmless bit of fun and most probably a passing internet fad. However the problem is some plankers want to take it to the next level and become the best there is and that's when it becomes dangerous. When competition starts to heat up and plankers want to become the best there is. Like the two Whyalla Santos workers who have been sacked for planking 60 meters up in the air. Things will start to get ugly. 


So it is up to the planker to decide whether he is putting himself and others at risk. If so don't do it. What started as a harmless bit of fun can get nasty and if there is any danger involved in doing it that it is best to be cautious.

FarmVille Craftshop Quests Guide

Once the Craftshop frame becomes available there’s a new group of quests you can try out. The quests generally are aimed around the Craftshop and with the help of your friends you can get some great rewards, some of which can be used towards the construction of the Craftshop. You’ll need to be Level 15 to start the quests.

Workin’ on the Craftshop

Gilda has stopped by and is trying to convince you to start a Craftshop, because every farmer is going to want one (in the example below we’ve already placed the Craftshop).

The quest objectives are:

• Buy 1 Craftshop – you should be able to get this completed just by getting the Craftshop through Placement mode. Alternatively you can just buy it from the Market.
• Fertilize plots on neighbor’s farms 25 times – you’ll need to fertilize 25 plots of neighbors farms (note that you can fertilize 5 plots on each neighbor’s farm per 24 hour period).

The quest rewards are:

• 100 XP
• 2 Hammers
• 2 bags of Concrete

Shoulder to the Plow

Farming and crafting means you’ll need to know both processes to be successful – growing the ingredients, crafting parts and making something cool.

The quest objectives are:

• Get 6 Cans of Elbow Grease – you can acquire these Cans by clicking on the “Ask Friends” button, which will ask you to make a post to your feed. Alternatively you can skip this step by paying Farm Cash.
• Harvest 100 Morning Glory – plant and harvest 100 plots of the Morning Glory flower.

The quest rewards are:

• 250 XP
• 1 Milk Jub Cart
• 5,000 Coins

Finishing Touches

The final quest involves finishing the Craftshop with some hard work.

The quest objectives are:

• Complete 1 Craftshop – complete construction of the Craftshop. You can spend Farm Cash to finish this objective, which should be 1 Farm Cash for every part left that you need (the default is 29 if you haven’t used any additional parts yet).
• Harvest 100 Wheat – plant and harvest 100 plots of the Wheat crop.

The quest rewards are:

• 500 XP
• 5 Farm Cash
• 7,500 Coins

You also have the option of Sharing some Spools of Twine with your friends via a wall feed post when you complete this final Craftshop quest.

FarmVille Craftshop Guide

The FarmVille Craftshop is here and this is a part of the official FarmVille Guides.


 It’s time to start building the Craftshop, a new constructible building that will serve as the base for a whole new level of crafting in FarmVille in the near future. Plus we have some new quests to help you and your friends build it!

You’ll get the Craftshop frame for free the first time you play FarmVille after the update, and you will immediately be entered into Placement Mode. You can place the Craftshop on your farm now, or you can choose to place it in your Gift Box for use later (by switching to the Multi-Tool for instance). If you put it into your Gift Box, you’ll be able to place it on either your Home Farm or English Countryside farm.

If you lose your sell your Craftshop, you can purchase it again in the Market. It is listed under Buildings, though there are two versions available: the Craftshop frame (for coins) and the fully-built Craftshop (for 30 Farm Cash). If you see that it is “Locked” you either have one in your Gift Box or it’s on your farm someplace. You can have just one Craftshop per farm.

Once the Craftshop frame is on the farm you can click on it, then select “Look Inside” to see this window:

The Craftshop is a constructible building that requires certain building parts to complete it. However, it does not require the normal types of building parts, but instead three new types: Spools of Twine, Concrete bags, and Hammers.

You can acquire these parts by:

• Asking your neighbors for these parts by posting a help request to your feed (click on the “Ask For Part” button for each type of part).
• Give parts to your neighbors via the Free Gifts page or the “Send Gifts” button.
• Acquire parts by spending Farm Cash. Click on the “Buy” button for that particular part to purchase all of the particular part that you need (the cost is X Farm Cash, where X is the number of parts left that you need), or buy those parts individually in the Market (you can find them in Farm Aides -> Other).
• Acquire all needed parts for the building by spending Farm Cash (click on the “Complete Now” button to purchase parts for the rest of the building). The cost is X Farm Cash, where X is the total number of parts left needed to finish the building.
• Using individual parts already available in your Gift Box.
• As rewards from certain quests (see below).

YouTube RealTime: How does it work

This feature has not yet official launched but in the coming weeks it will be rolled out initially to a small number of people and then it will grow. YouTube RealTime works best when you have a large number of friends on YouTube. It seems Google would like to make their YouTube website more social and encourage sharing. So YouTube RealTime will be in a persistent bar located on the lower left hand corner, it will show you what you friends are watching in real time and videos they like. In addition it will also show a history of their activities on the site and real-time notifications when they perform activities like commenting, favoriting and uploading.
