The Trump-Xi Beijing Summit: What the Smiling Handshakes Won't Tell You

On Thursday, Donald Trump will walk into the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, shake Xi Jinping's hand, and declare it a great meeting. There will be announcements. There will be numbers — billions of dollars in Chinese purchase commitments, a new bilateral mechanism with an important-sounding name, possibly a joint statement on Iran. Trump will post on Truth Social. Markets will rally briefly. Pundits will argue about who won. None of that will tell you what actually happened. What is actually happening in Beijing this week is something more consequential and more uncomfortable than the summit theatre will reveal: two leaders of two deeply mutually dependent superpowers, both of whom need this meeting to succeed for entirely different reasons, sitting across a table in a world that has already moved past the assumptions that defined their last nine months of negotiations. The Iran war changed the equations. The rare earth gambit changed the power balance. Taiwan is sitting in...

There are many people who have uploaded the song on YouTube and it is now doing the rounds. It appears that the song is Lenny Kravits song 'Storm' redone with MJ. With now people debating which version is better and it seems the majority is with the version done with Michael Jackson. An original post by Sociolatte

Students from elite schools join raciest group.

A race hate group on Facebook now has members from Australia's elite schools. The group calls itself " Mate speak English, you're in Australia Now " and has a logo of the Aussie flag with the caption 'F** off we're full". With a Group Description saying " if you want to speak your crappy language, go back to where you came from"  The group at present does not have any Admins as all the admins left. The last one said it was started as a joke when his friends heard immigrants speaking different languages on the train. Once he caught on that the postings were becoming raciest he exited the group. Saying that he had friends from different ethnic backgrounds. The group is against immigrants. One student posting on the page, who says he is from Melbourne's Xavier College, has challenged the college's principal to expel him for joining the group. Dr Chris Hayes, Principal of Xavier College , said anyone who had joined the group had broken the s...

Animal Lovers demand justice for Buddy on Facebook group.

Well the story so far. On December 30, 2009 between 2:18 am and 4:30 am a German Shepherd named Buddy was dragged to death at the Colorado National Monument. Joan Anzelmo, superintendent of the monument, identified the suspect as Steven Clay Romero, 37, of Grand Junction. She said Romero is alleged to have stolen the dog — Buddy, a German shepherd-blue heeler mix — from people in Delta. He allegedly took the dog to the Colorado National Monument early Wednesday, tied the dog to his truck and dragged the dog. Paw prints in the snow were found to show Buddy at first walking, then running, then dragging, for 3 miles. A surveillance video showed a truck entering the monument at 2:18 am with a dog in the bed of the truck, it showed the same truck leaving at 2:30 with no dog. Witnesses said Romero said he was going to kill the dog, another said he saw Romero leave the residence with the dog. Romero faces one count of aggravated cruelty towards animals. If convicted, the penalty is a maximum ...

Stephen Fry to retire from Twitter for a while.

Stephen Fry announced on his Twitter account that will be missing from his account for about three months. He is doing this in order to concentrate on writing his Biography. In a mini-blog farewell note. He says some people can write with distractions but he cannot and needs quietness and peace. He will be back in a while once he is done writing. Well now, this is a sort of farewell . An  au revoir  more than an  adieu  but a valediction all the same. This morning I switch off most of my connections with the outside world, for I have work to do. I must deliver a book to my publishers by the end of April or my soul and testicles will be forfeit. Some people can write with ease in whatever circumstances they find themselves. Up a tree, on a bus, in a log cabin, a steamy-windowed café or a tropical beach. Some don’t mind noise, distraction or a broken up day. I, unhappily, am not made of this material. I need peace, absolute peace, an empty diary and zero distraction. I enter a kind of w...
