Acer Launches Android Phone

The world's second-largest PC brand entered the cellphone market this year with 10 models, with all but the Android phone using Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. Acer has launched its SmartPhone running with Google's Andriod software this week. Acer will sell only 50-100 devices each year. They do not plan to get into competition in the smartphone market but will do this in their own time.

Android had 3.5 percent of the global smartphone market in the quarter ended September, compared with none 12 months earlier, while Microsoft saw its market share fall to 8.8 percent from 13.6 percent a year earlier, according to research firm Canalys.

It features include a 5 megapixel camera which can also double as a video recorder. On-board memory of 256 MB. Rechargeable battery with 300 minutes of talk time. 3.5 inch WVGA touch screen with high resolution Also offers hard core social networking support.
